Tarleton takes sole possession of first in LSC with 69-62 win over WT

- Box Score

STEPHENVILLE – Every win Tarleton gets against West Texas A&M means something.

Saturday it meant three straight wins over the Lady Buffs for the first time in school history, an undefeated record in Lone Star Conference play and sole possession of first place in the LSC.

Tarleton (9-5, 6-0) relied on a slew of new faces to earn a 69-62 victory over rival West Texas A&M (8-6, 6-1) in front of 1,985 fans at Wisdom Gym Saturday night.

Double-figure efforts from Lisa Parker, Kiara Wright, Peyton Adamson and Karli Moore provided enough firepower for the TexAnns to knock off the Lady Buffs despite fighting foul trouble most of the night.

Senior guard Shelby Adamson played a season-low 19 minutes after being forced to the bench after just two minutes of first half action. She didn't return until the second half.

With just 1:58 into the game, Adamson picked up her second foul and the TexAnns felt the ill effects, as WT went on a 6-1 push to lead 7-3.

Off the bench, Moore drained a layup to start a 12-6 Tarleton run to take a 15-13 lead with just over 10 left in the half.

WT wouldn't go away as Kenisha Harris drained a 14-foot jumper and a 3-ball along with an Ashley Leven layup to give WT the lead at 19-16.

Peyton Adamson answered with a trey of her own on Tarleton's next possession to tie the game.

The teams stayed even over most of the half until Harris scored three on a layup and foul with 19 seconds left. Tarleton got the last possession but couldn't capitalize as WT led at the break 29-26.

Out of the break WT pushed its lead to six at 37-31, but layups by Parker, Wright and Moore tied the game at 37-37.

WT made their lead to 43-42 before a 7-0 run by Shelby Adamson and Wright gave Tarleton its biggest lead of the night at 49-43.

The TexAnns extended their lead to nine with 3:30 left in the game, but WT clawed back to within two at 1:05 left in the game.

Moore stopped the bleeding with a wide-open layup off an assist from the double-teamed Shelby Adamson. Tarleton went 3-4 from the free throw line in the final 25 seconds to seal the deal.

Peyton Adamson led the TexAnns with 16 points while Wright and Parker added 14 each. Wright added seven rebounds before fouling out with 2:56 left in the game.

Moore had a career night with 11 points and five rebounds in just her 12th collegiate game.
