STEPHENVILLE - The Texans head back out on the road to take on the Rams of Angelo State on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in the Junell Center. The Texans will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. for their final road game of the season. Tarleton is coming off a tough week in which they lost a pair of road games and will look to redeem itself against the 11-15 Rams.
LAST WEEK
The Texans (22-4, 13-3) finished an exhausting week in which they lost in triple overtime at Midwestern St. on Monday, rallied from 19-points down to beat Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday and dropped a hard-fought game at West Texas A&M on Saturday. Tarleton took a No. 1 defense in the nation and held on to that title, but gave up more points than they would of liked in all three games (65.5)
THIS YEAR
On the season, Tarleton is shooting 47.1 percent from the floor, 32.0 percent from three-point land and 71.0 percent from the charity stripe. The Texans are averaging 69.7 points per game and 35.4 rebounds per game.
HOLDING OFF OPPONENTS
Opponent's are shooting just 37.4 percent overall and averaging 56.5 points per game against the Texans. Tarleton is No. 1 in the nation in points allowed and No. 2 in field goal percentage allowed.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Chris Harrell leads the Texans with 12.9 points per game while
Fabian Wilson adds 12.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Shedrick Haynes is contributing 10.5 points and 3.5 assists to Tarleton's effort and
Wes Dipprey is chipping in 6.9 points and 5.9 boards.
SIZING UP THE OPPONENT
Angelo State has been roughed up by a tough Lone Star Conference schedule and is now 11-15 on the season and 3-12 in league play. All three of the Rams' wins in the LSC have come at home, as well as nine of their 11 total wins on the year.
Tarleton still trails ASU in the all-time series 24-35, but has won the last five meetings between the two teams.
STOPPING THE RAMS
This season, ASU is averaging 65.8 points per game and giving up 68.2 points to opponents. The Rams are shooting 40.3 percent from the floor, 32.5 percent from three-point range and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe. ASU is also being out-rebounded by opponents (-1.4), but committing fewer turnovers (+1.0)
The Rams are ranked second to last in the LSC in scoring offense and scoring margin. They rank in the middle or towards the bottom in most categories, but are No. 3 in three-point field goal percentage defense.
WHO TO LOOK FOR
Keenen Coleman is the league's third leading scorer with 15.4 points per game to go with his 5.3 rebounds each contest. Hanif Nixon-Hughes, LaDonn Huckaby and Javae King-Gilchrist are all averaging double-digit points as well.
AMONG THE BEST
The Texans are ranked near the top of almost every statistical category in the conference.
Tarleton is No. 1 in scoring defense (56.5 ppg) and No. 2 in scoring margin (+13.2). The Texans are also No. 1 in field goal defense (.374), No. 2 in three-point field goal defense (29.0) and No. 2 in rebounding defense (30.5).
Individually,
Chris Harrell is No. 11 in scoring (12.9 ppg), while
Fabian Wilson is No. 3 in rebounding (6.9) and No. 9 in blocks (0.8). Shedrick Haynes is No. 7 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2) as well as No. 6 in assists (3.5). Harrell and
Coleman Furst rank in the top four in free throw percentage.
REMAINING IN THE RANKINGS
Tarleton was ranked No. 8 in the NABC/NCAA Division II Preseason Polls and No. 1 in the Lone Star Conference Preseason poll.
The Texans are now No. 7 in the nation and No. 2 in the LSC standings behind Midwestern St.

The Texans will wrap up the season with a contest at Angelo State on Wednesday and a home game against Abilene Christian on Saturday.
