STEPHENVILLE – The Texans and the No. 8 Rams wrapped-up the four-game series on Sunday as Angelo State defeated Tarleton 13-7 in Stephenville.
Angelo State got on the board early with a single run in the top of the first on a double play ground ball with the bases loaded.
Ryan Small responded though in the bottom of the first with a solo shot to left. That marked the second straight at-bat with a home run for the junior as he hit the walk off bomb in the night-cap of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Rams managed another run in the second as walks became an issue for the Texan pitching staff. ASU took a 2-1 lead over Tarleton. Lead-off man Zach Cohen added an RBI single to extend the Rams' lead to 3-1.
Tarleton starter Kyle Supak would give way to Joseph Rubalcaba with the bases loaded before a two-run single would make it a 5-1 contest with just one out in the second. Before the top of the second was over, the Texans would trail the Rams 6-1.
Blake Silguero chipped away at the deficit in the third with an RBI single, plating Small. It was then a 6-2 ball game.
The Texans were able to cut the margin down to two runs in the fourth after Jonathan Schmitz scored on an error and Andrew Jacobi scored on an RBI groundout by Andy Wolfe.
The Rams pushed the score to 7-4 after scoring on an RBI groundout of their own in the fifth.
Silguero would once again record an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth to keep Tarleton in the contest, 7-5.
Just as the rest of the series had gone, the back and forth continued with ASU scoring another run in the sixth, making it 8-5 in favor of the Rams.
They managed another pair of runs in the seventh, for a 10-5 lead.
Silguero continued to wreak havoc on the ASU pitching staff with a two-run double to center in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the deficit to 10-7.
In the end though, the No. 8 Rams proved to be too much for the Texans and ended the series with an 13-7 victory over Tarleton.
That split the series after the Texans had taken both games on Saturday.
Kyle Supak (0-3) was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings of work.
James Conlee (4-1) got the win for ASU despite giving up seven runs on 12 hits in seven innings on the mound.
Silguero was the star of the game for Tarleton, going 4-for-4 with four RBI's, while Jacobi, Wolfe and Small added RBI's as well. Small also went 3-for-5 in the game with four runs scored.
Tarleton (17-18, 9-11) will have their regular season home finale on Tuesday against Hardin Simmons starting at 7 p.m. at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.
