Tarleton wraps-up home schedule with Hardin Simmons Tuesday

STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will host Hardin Simmons at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex for the home finale of the 2012 Texan baseball season.

Tarleton enters the game with a 17-18 overall record and 7-10 home mark.  The Texans are coming off a series split of No. 8 Angelo State and are winners of four of the last six games.  When Tarleton and Hardin Simmons met earlier in the season, the Texans were victorious 9-3 in Abilene.

Overall, the Texans are hitting for a .292 average, a .428 slugging percentage and a .386 on-base percentage.  Noah Ringenberger is leading the team with a .336 average and 42 hits to go with 19 RBI's and 14 walks.  Ryan Small has a team-high 31 RBI's and 19 extra-base hits, including seven home runs.  Andy Wolfe, Blake Silguero and Jonathan Schmitz also join those two in batting over .300 on the season.

The Tarleton pitching staff has a team ERA of 5.35, which ranks fourth in the LSC.  The Texans also have 224 strikeouts to 139 walks in 282 2/3 innings.  Pete Perez leads the way with a 6-2 record, a 2.93 ERA and 55 strikeouts, while Matt Buckmaster is 4-1 with a 3.88 ERA and 35 k's.  Taylor Christian, Britt Robertshaw and Tanner Ross all have two wins under their belts as well.

Hardin Simmons on the other hand is 16-17 overall and 10-10 away from home this season.  The Cowboys are also losers of three of their past four contests.

As a team, HSU is hitting for a .272 average with a .350 on-base percentage and a .375 slugging percentage.  Troy Tarrant leads the team with 27 RBi's, 20 extra-base hits and a .364 average while Andrew Rehling has 19 RBI's and 12 extra-base hits.  Together, the Cowboys have 14 home runs on the year and 203 strikeouts.

The pitching staff for HSU posts a 4.74 ERA with 223 k's in 266 innings of work.  Troy Nicholson and James Simmons both have four wins, 30+ strikeouts and sub-4.75 ERA's.  Tyler Brunnemann is the closer for the Cowboys and has five saves on the season to go with his 1.82 ERA.

Tarleton leads the all-time series 18-5, which dates back to 1992.
