LAWTON, OKLA. – The Texan baseball team defeated Cameron in both games Saturday as the wins put Tarleton into the Lone Star Conference Tournament for the fourth straight year.
Tarleton has now won six straight games.
Game 1 – Tarleton 12, Cameron 0
The Texans continued their hot hitting in the first game of the day as they manhandled the Aggies 12-0.
Landon Thompson followed up a scoring error in the top of the first with an RBI single to short, giving Tarleton a 2-0 lead.
The Texans piled on four more runs in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Blake Silguero and a three-run home run by Garrett Hardey, his third in two games.
The third inning saw two more Tarleton runs as they took a 8-0 lead. Ryan Small recorded an RBI double while Evan Robinson scored on an error.
Noan Ringenberger added an RBI single to left in the fifth inning, before Jonathan Schmitz contributed a two-run single.
Small capped off the game with a solo home run to left, giving Tarleton a 12-0 victory.
Pete Perez (7-3) got the nod for the Texans and tossed his sixth complete game of the season. The junior righty gave up just two hits and struck out four in the seven-inning shutout.
Small and Schmitz finished the game with two hits each, while Small, Ringenberger and Hardey all scored a pair of runs. The Texans totaled nine hits and benefited from three Cameron errors.
James Rhodes suffered the loss for the Aggies after giving up eight runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Game 2 – Tarleton 10, Cameron 5
The Texans swept the doubleheader with a 10-5 victory in the night cap, pushing Tarleton's record to 25-19 on the year and 15-12 in conference play.
In the top of the first, Tarleton got out to an early 1-0 lead with Silguero's solo home run to left.
Cameron responded with two runs in the second to take their first lead of the weekend.
The Texans would quickly answer though as Ringenberger ripped an RBI triple to right, tying the game up at 2-2.
Tarleton then scored seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding lead.
Hardey scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning to seal up a 10-5 win for the Texans.
Ringenberger led the way for Tarleton with a 3-for-5 day and two RBI's while Silguero added two RBI's and went 2-for-3. Jarde Musgrove also had a pair of RBI's.
Matt Buckmaster (6-1) picked up his sixth win of the season after holding Cameron to just four runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
Mike Carlson was on the losing end for the Aggies after allowing six runs in 3 2/3 innings.
The 2012 regular season will wrap-up on Sunday for the Texans as they battle Cameron at 1 p.m.
