SAN ANTONIO – The Tarleton baseball team began their series with Incarnate Word and both teams were able to pick up a win with the Texans winning game one 5-3 and the Cardinals winning game two 13-6.

Game 1 – Tarleton 5, UIW 3

The Texans struck first with a three-run second inning, taking an early lead on the Cardinals.  Landon Thompson started it off with an RBI single to center, scoring Jonathan Schmitz.  Andy Wolfe followed with an RBI bunt single, plating Thompson.  Evan Robinson capped off the inning with an RBI bunt single of his own.

Tarleton added to the lead in the third with Garrett Hardey's RBI double to left, making it a 4-0 contest.  UIW quickly responded though with a single run in the third.

Then in the fourth, the Texans scored their final run of the day on Ryan Small's RBI single to left, giving Tarleton a 5-1 lead.

The Cardinals would cut the deficit to two with a pair of runs in the fifth, but in the end, they would not mount enough of a comeback as Tarleton won 5-3.

Pete Perez (5-2) rebounded from a loss in his last outing to go all seven innings for Tarleton, giving up just two earned runs on five hits while fanning four Cardinal batters.  It marks the fourth complete game of the year for the junior hurler.

Dylan Boss (1-3) also tossed all seven innings for UIW, but suffered the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits, despite striking out 10 batters.

Blake Silguero was 2-for-4 on the day with a run scored, while seven other hitters recorded at least one hit in the game.  All nine batters reached base for the Texans in the game.

Game 2 – UIW 13, Tarleton 6

The Cardinals responded to the loss in game one with 13 runs on 17 hits in the second game of the doubleheader, as they took a 13-6 decision over the Texans.

UIW got off to a fast start with three runs in the bottom of the first.  Tarleton answered however with three runs of their own in the third tying the game at 3-3.  In that third, Silguero broke up the shutout with an RBI double to left.  Andy Wolfe then tied the game with a two-run double to right, scoring Hardey and Silguero.

The Cardinals took the lead in the bottom half of the inning, then added three more runs in the fourth to make it a 7-3 contest.

Tarleton kept fighting though and had single runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings.  A four-run seventh by UIW put the game out of reach though, and the Texans fell 13-6 as the final.

Kenneth Stockton (0-2) suffered the loss for Tarleton after giving up eight runs, only four earned, on 11 hits in four innings on the mound.  Three Texan errors did not help the senior's cause.

Jorge Guarneros (4-3) got the win for UIW with his six innings of work.

Wolfe led the Tarleton offense with a 3-for-5 outing, two RBI's and a run scored, while Silguero contributed a 2-for-5 day, two RBI's and a pair of runs.  Small finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI as well.

The Texans (13-15) wrap-up the series with the Cardinals Saturday at 1 p.m. with another doubleheader.
