GOLDEN, Colo. – Tarleton (2-2) wrapped up the Colorado Mines Oredigger Classic by splitting a pair of games with ranked opponents – Wayne State and tournament host, Colorado Mines.
Tarleton 3, Wayne State College 1
The TexAnns dominated the opening set of Saturday's match against No. 12 Wayne State College and never looked back as they cruised to a 4-1 win over the Tigers.
Tarleton out together a solid performance in the first set with 13 kills and just four errors for a .300 hitting percentage while forcing Wayne State to a (-)125 hitting percentage with four kills and seven errors on 24 attempts.
The TexAnns won the set 25-13.
Tarleton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in similar fashion, out-hitting WSC .280 to .034 en route to a 25-17 win.
Following a 21-25 loss in the third set, Tarleton finished the job in the fourth set with a 25-20 win on a .280 hitting percentage. They held WSC to a .111 hitting percentage.
Katie Covell recorded a double-double with a team-high 10 kills and 14 digs.
Nikki McNorton was one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills on 15 attempts for a team-high .467 hitting percentage in addition to her 12 blocks. Freshman middle blocker
Meg Umbel also had nine kills.
Colorado Mines 3, Tarleton 0
In the final game of the tournament, Tarleton battled but fell short of the No. 25 Colorado Mines Orediggers as the host team swept the TexAnns, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18 Saturday afternoon.
Colorado Mines committed just 11 total errors over the three sets while Tarleton made 12 miscues in the third set alone.
Katie Covell recorded her second double-digit kill effort of the day with 11 landed attacks. The redshirt sophomore also added eight digs.
Danielle Barker led the team with 25 assists while
Kelsey Raglin was the leading digger with 11.
The TexAnns will be home this weekend for the Tarleton Invitational – a two-day, eight-team tournament – beginning with William Jewell at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
