SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton TexAnn golf team opened the 2012 fall season with a first round score of 16-over par (304) at the Angelo State Concho River Classic held at Bentwood Country Club in San Angelo on Monday.
The TexAnns head into tomorrow's final round in fourth-place, just seven strokes off the lead of St. Edward's first-round score of nine-over par (297). Lone Star Conference member Midwestern State carded a first-round score of 12-over par (300) for a second-place finish on Monday, while Newman finished the day with a 15-over par (303) for third-place – just one stroke ahead the TexAnns.
The TexAnns were led by Isabell Jimenz-Perea's two-over par (74). She finished the first-round tied for eighth-place overall, four strokes behind Incarnate Word's Flower Castillo who headed into the clubhouse leading with a score of two-under par (70). ASU's Abby Bobo finished second on the day with a one-under (71), while SEU's Wallis Spears carded an even par (72) for third-place.
Sharon Lau and
Jessica Pickwick both finished in a tie for 13
th overall for the TexAnns, carding a four-over par (76). Meanwhile,
Jacqueline Lau finished the round with a six-over par (78) in a tie for 23
rd-place.
Sarah Fulfer rounded out the TexAnn scoring on the day with a first-round total of 11-over par (83) to finish in a tie for 43
rd-place overall.
The TexAnns will conclude the ASU Concho River Classic tomorrow, with the second round set to begin in the morning at Bentwood CC.
