COMMERCE, Texas - The Tarleton Texans (9-6, 3-5 LSC) will be seeking its first road win of the season as the team travels to Commerce this Saturday, Jan. 26, to take on the rivaled A&M-Commerce Lions (11-7, 4-4 LSC) at TAMUC Fieldhouse. Tip-off between the Texans and Lions is set for 4 p.m. in Commerce.
QUICK HITS
• Tarleton snapped a four-game losing streak with a 15-point win over West Texas A&M at Wisdom Gym on Saturday.
• The Texans' 65-50 win prevented the team from dropping straight games overall and four-consecutive losses to Lone Star Conference teams.
• The win pushed Tarleton's record to 9-6 overall and 3-5 in league games.
• Tarleton will have had a complete week of practice without a game played in-between for the first time since late December.
ABOUT THE LIONS
• The Lions are coming off an 84-77 win over Eastern New Mexico in Commerce last Saturday.
• A&M-Commerce's record is now at 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the LSC.
• The Lions will have a complete week of practice also after being idle on Wednesday.
• A&M-C is 6-1 when playing inside TAMUC Fieldhouse this season.
SERIES HISTORY
• The Lions lead the all-time series 28-25, but Tarleton has won the previous four contests between the two teams.
• Tarleton's last defeat to the Lions came back on Nov. 25, 2008 inside Wisdom Gym (67-85).
• The Texans are just 8-9 when playing the Lions in Commerce, despite having won the last two meetings at TAMUC Fieldhouse.
• The last time Tarleton dropped a game to the Lions in Commerce came back on Dec. 6, 2007. The Texans fell 52-72 after trailing by just five points (27-32) at the break. Tarleton shot just 27 percent from the field in the second half and A&M-C shot better than 44 percent.

Lonn Reisman is 21-15 overall against the Lions.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
• Head coach Sam Walker is in his 13th season at the helm of the Lions basketball program. He brings in an overall record of 203-155 when he meets the Texans this Saturday.
• Walker faced Midwestern State on Jan. 9, 2013, and his Lions rallied from a double-digit first half deficit to down the Mustangs 74-66, which gave Walker his 202nd career victory. That win moved Walker past Jim Gudger (1969-83) as the all-time winningest coach in A&M-C history, encompassing not just the men's basketball program but every Lion athletic team.
• A&M-C is averaging 76.0 points per game, which ranks second in the LSC behind UIW's 76.9 ppg. The Lion defense is giving up 72.8 points, which is seventh most in the league.
• The Lions are shooting 44.7 percent from the field as a team (5th in the LSC) and are allowing opponents to shoot 43.7 percent from the floor.
• A&M-C is shooting 36.4 percent from beyond the arc (4th in LSC) and 67.6 percent from the charity stripe (also 4th in the LSC).
• Preston Whitley, a senior forward for the Lions, leads the squad with 14.6 points a game. Stefon Carson, a senior guard, is second on the team with 11.1 points per contest.
• Other notable leaders for the Lions include Andrew Davis (7.3 rebounds); Jason Smith (56 assists); and Tyrie Wooten (28 steals).
OFF THE SCHNIDE
• The last time a Tarleton team had dropped five straight games came back in 1995-96, and that streak did not continue this season as Tarleton defeated WTAMU 65-50 inside Wisdom Gym last Saturday.
UNCHARTED WATERS
• With the win over the Buffs, Tarleton avoided losing five straight games to LSC opponents for the first time ever in school history.
• Before Saturday's victory, Tarleton had a four-game losing streak to LSC opponents for the first-time ever since joining the league in 1994.
• The Texans have dropped three-straight games to LSC teams just seven times in school history.
ROAD WOES CONTINUE??
• The Texans will be looking to avoid going 0-5 on the road this season when the team travels to Commerce this Saturday.
• Tarleton is currently 0-4 on the road this season and the Texans have not won a contest away from Wisdom Gym in its previous five attempts dating back to last season's overtime loss to Arkansas Tech in the NCAA South Central Regional semifinal game.
• The last time a Tarleton team dropped five-consecutive games away from home came back in the 1995-96 season. Tarleton dropped a school record eight-straight games on the road that season.
WINNING AT WISDOM
• The Tarleton Texans are now 326-58 (.851) overall when playing inside the friendly confines of Wisdom Gym under head coach

Lonn Reisman won his 200th game since 2000 inside Wisdom Gym with the 65-50 over WTAMU. The Texans, since 2000, are now 200-25 (.892) at home under Reisman.
• Since joining NCAA Division II, Tarleton is 253-44 (.854) all-time at home.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING
• The last time national statistics came out, Tarleton ranked 12th in scoring defense. After giving up just 50 points to WT on Saturday, the Texans moved to 8th in the nation in scoring defense allowing opposing teams to just 59.1 points per game. Cal-Poly continues to lead the nation giving up just over 54 points per contest. Tarleton finished the past two seasons leading the country in scoring defense.
• Tarleton ranks 53rd in field goal percentage-defense, as opponents shoot just 40.6 percent from the floor.
• The Texans rank 29th in blocks per game, averaging 4.3 blocks against opposing teams.
CATHEY-MACKLIN AMONG NATION'S BEST
• Tarleton's
Jon Cathey-Macklin (F, Jr, Milwaukee, Wis.) averages 1.2 blocks per game, which ranks fifth in the LSC and inside the top-100 in the nation.
• Cathey-Macklin tallied a season-high three blocks in Tarleton's wins over Henderson State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. He currently leads the team with 18 blocks so far on the season.
CATHEY-MACKLIN TABBED LSC DEFENSIVE POW
• Cathey-Macklin averaged 6.0 boards a game and was a huge part in the Texans allowing opposing teams to less than 55 points a contest and just 39.0 percent shooting from the field.
• The junior forward dominated opposing team's post players to score just a combined 20 points. ENMU's big men scored just four points in the contest and Cathey-Macklin helped limit WT's Donald Sims to just 10 points in Tarleton's 65-50 win over the Buffs.
• Cathey-Macklin became the first Tarleton player to earn LSC weekly honors for the 2012-13 season.
CARTER LEADING THE LSC
•
Davene Carter (F, So, Duncanville) leads the LSC with a shooting percentage of 83.3 percent in 15 contests this season.
• Carter is 50-of-60 from the field this season.
• He would lead the nation in field goal shooting percentage, but he averages just under 3.5 field goals made per contest. To be considered nationally, the player must average at least 5.0 field goals made per game.
• The national leader, Dazmond Starke of Kentucky Wesleyan, is shooting 69.7 percent from the field - 13.6 percentage points less than Carter.
HOW THE LSC IS STACKING UP SO FAR
• The Texans were picked to win the LSC. Tarleton currently sits in a tie for sixth-place with West Texas A&M in the conference at 3-5.
• MSU, who was picked to finish second, leads the league with an 7-1 mark in conference games.
• WTAMU's Donald Sims was named the LSC's Preseason Player of the Year; he currently ranks 7th in scoring (13.8 ppg), second in rebounds (8.2 rpg) and second in field goal percentage (.672).
OPENING UP THE LSC SCHEDULE
• Tarleton dropped its LSC opener for the first time since Jan. 14, 2009 with its five-point loss to Angelo State on Wednesday.
• The Texans are now 12-7 in LSC openers since joining the league in 1994.
TEXANS PICKED TO WIN LSC
• The Texans were selected to defend its LSC Championship, earning the No. 1 ranking in the preseason poll released by the league office on Oct. 25, 2012.
• Tarleton received 12 of a possible 29 first-place votes in the poll.
• Midwestern State received 12 first-place votes in the poll as well, but Tarleton took the top spot earning 269 total points to MSU's 262.
TEXANS DEBUT 2012-13 SEASON AT NO. 17 IN NABC PRESEASON POLL
• The Texans finished the 2011-12 campaign at No. 9 in the nation and head into the new season at No. 17 according to a preseason poll released by the NABC on Nov. 2.
• Tarleton was the highest ranked LSC team in the preseason poll. MSU debuts at No. 23 in 2012-13 after finishing No. 5 last season.
• Including the 2012-13 campaign, Tarleton has been preseason ranked inside the top-25 seven times.
TARLETON IN SEASON-OPENERS
• Tarleton snapped a 10-game winning streak in season openers after falling 73-60 to Southwestern Assemblies of God in the 2012-13 opening game. Tarleton fell to 21-4 in season-openers under coach Reisman.
• Tarleton's last loss in a season-opener had come back in 2001 against Wingate (73-83).
REISMAN AMONG WINNINGEST ACTIVE COACHES IN NATION

Lonn Reisman entered the 2012-13 season with a .702 winning percentage, which ranks 12th overall among active coaches in NCAA Division II.
• Reisman's .702 winning percentage ranks 26th overall among active coaches in both NCAA Division I and II.
TEXANS RANKED NO. 1 IN DEFENSE LAST SEASON
• The Texans finished the season ranked No. 1 overall in scoring defense for a second-straight year after allowing opponents to just 56.3 points per game in 2012-13. The Texans allowed just 53.3 points to finish no. 1 in 2010-11.
UP NEXT
• The Texans return home for a pair of games next week, hosting McMurry in non-conference action on Wednesday, Jan. 30, before returning to LSC action next Saturday, Feb. 2 against the Lions.
• Tarleton will then host Angelo State on Saturday, Feb. 6, before returning to the road for two more contests.
