Jake Fenske passed for a season-high 313 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the No. 22-ranked Texans to a 34-14 win over Eastern New Mexico in Lone Star Conference play Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Stadium in Blackwater Draw, N.M.
The Texans (4-0, 3-0 LSC) gave up an early touchdown to the Greyhounds (1-3, 0-1 LSC), but it was all Tarleton after that as the Texan defense forced four first half turnovers and the offense managed to rack up 398 yards of total offense on the day.
Fenske had a season-high 27 completions and tallied a career-high 50- passing attempts in the contest as well. His 50 pass attempts were the most since
Aaron Doyle attempted 52 passes against Abilene Christian last season.
Jeken Frye tied a career-high on Saturday as he pulled in two touchdown passes from Fenske and tallied 57 receiving yards as well.
Andre Plata led the Texans with 70 yards receiving, while
Clifton Rhodes III caught a game-high seven catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.
The Texans open the season with four straight wins away from Tarleton Memorial Stadium for the first time in school history and extend its win streak to seven straight games dating back to last season. Tarleton has also won seven straight road contests dating back to last season as well.
The Texans fell behind 7-0 early in the contest as ENMU managed to punch the ball into the end zone following a turnover by the Texan offense. ENMU recovered the fumble at their own 33-yard line and then six plays later Christian Long found the end zone from six yards out.
ENMU picked off Fenske on Tarleton's next drive, but the Texan defense forced the Greyhounds to punt and
Desmond Jackson returned it 72 yards to set up Tarleton's first touchdown of the day. Three plays later Fense hooked up with Frye from 11 yards out for his first touchdown of the day to tie the game at 7-7 with 4:14 left to play in the first quarter.

Marc Martinez forced a fumble for defense and
Chance Wallace recovered the ball to give the Texans a first down on the ENMU 44-yard line with 1:28 left to go in the first quarter. Seven plays later, Tarleton's
Blake Barnes kicked a 26-yard field goal to give the Texans a 10-7 lead at the beginning of the second quarter.
Following another ENMU turnover, Fenske found Frye again – this time from 23 yards out – to put the Texans on top 17-7 with 8:54 left to play in the first half.
The Greyhounds managed to get the ball all the way to the Tarleton one-yard line on its ensuing possession, but quarterback Jeremy Buurma fumbled the ball at the three-yard line and Tarleton's
Brandon Moore recovered the ball and the Texans took over after picking up its third turnover of the first half.
The Texans would not get the ball into the end zone following that turnover, but ENMU again coughed up the ball on its own 25-yard line on the next possession and the Texans punched it into the end zone four plays later. Fenske hooked up with Rhodes for his third touchdown pass of the first half and Tarleton's lead grew to 24-7 with 5:16 left to play in the first half.
Fenske tied his season-high with 33 pass attempts in the first half alone and he completed 18 of those passes for 185 yards. Frye led the receiving corps at the break with 57 yards on five catches, while Jermoe Regal followed with 53 yards on three catches.
Marquis Wadley led the Texans at the break with 10 tackles, while Martinez and
Devin Figures each tallied five tackles in the first two quarters of play.
The Texans were outgained in total yardage during the first half as ENMU accumulated 207 yards of total offense to Tarleton's 199 total yards. The Texans passed the ball for 185 yards and rushed for 14 yards, while ENMU passed for 94 yards and had 113 yards on the ground.
The Texans have now outscored its opponents 73-41 in the first half in its first four games of the season.
Both teams were forced to punt to begin the second half, but Tarleton would push its lead to 27-7 on its second possession when Barnes capped off an 11-play drive with his 24-yard field goal with 4:15 left to play in the third quarter.
Collin Strahan scored the first touchdown of his career as he capped off an 11-play, 94-yard drive with his two-yard rush into the end zone. The score pushed Tarleton's lead to 34-7 with just 11:23 left to play in the game.
ENMU got back onto the board for the first time since the 9:52 mark in the first quarter when Buurma completed a 35-pass to Adrian Horton for a score with 7:12 left to play in the game. Mitchell Cox's extra point was good and the Greyhounds trailed 34-14 late in the contest.
After gaining just five yards on the ground in the first half, Regal finished the contest with 55 yards rushing on 14 carries. The Texans finished the game with just 85 total yards on the ground, snapping a streak of six consecutive games with at least 100 rushing yards.
Wadley tied a career-high with 16 tackles on the day as he came up with 11 solo tackles, five unassisted tackles and one tackle-for-loss. Martinez had six solo tackles on his way to 11 total tackles in the game and Figures finished with nine tackles in the contest as well.
The Tarleton defense came away with four fumble recoveries – all of them coming in the first half – but, the team forced seven fumbles on the afternoon.
The Texans were 7-of-15 on third down conversions, just one week after ENMU did not give up a third down conversion to Incarnate Word. The Greyhounds converted just six of its 19 third down plays, but were 2-of-3 on fourth downs.
Saturday's win now sets up a highly anticipated match-up with No. 4-ranked West Texas A&M next Saturday in Stephenville. The Buffs, who won 72-0 over Central State on Saturday, are 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in LSC play. The Texans and Buffs are scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. next Saturday at Tarleton Memorial Stadium.
