THE GAME
The Tarleton State Texans (1-0) return to action this weekend while hosting the 2013 Texan Tip-Off Classic, sponsored by Whataburger.
Â
The two-day event will be played in conjunctions with the TexAnn Tip-Off Classic, giving Tarleton fans an opportunity to see eight games inside Wisdom Gym.

The Texans will play St. Edward's at 7 p.m. on Friday night before concluding the tournament on Saturday against Bloomfield (N.J.). A&M-Commerce will make the trip to Stephenville also to compete as the fourth team in the tournament.

• The Texans won its 22nd overall and 11th out of the past 12 season-opening contests under head coach
Lonn Reisman this past Saturday, downing Southwestern Adventist 118-54 in Stephenville.

Covering the Game
Due to Stephenville High School football airing on Friday, Tarleton's game against St. Edward's will be broadcast live on KEQX (89.7 FM). Saturday's contest will return to its regular programming schedule and will be broadcast live on KSTV (93.1 FM) with
Casey Hogan calling play-by-play and Mike Young joining him for color commentary. The tournament can also be found online at www.keqx897.com on Friday and www.kstvfm.com for Saturday's contest.

Series with ST. Edward's
The Texans and Hilltoppers will be meeting for the 57th time in a series that began back in 1961, however this will be the first match-up between the two teams since 2008.

The Hilltoppers lead the all-time series 35-21, but Tarleton has won six of the last seven mettings between the squads. Tarleton is 11-4 against SEU under head coach
Lonn Reisman.

Tarleton won the previous meeting, downing the Hilltoppers 78-62 back on Dec. 18, 2008, in Stephenville.

Last Meeting
The last time a Tarleton team face SEU, Tarleton assistant coach
Marlin Cloudy was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field, which included a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc while guiding the Texans to a 16-point win.

Cloudy scored a game-high 19 points and was one of four starters to score in double figures on the evening.

The Texans led 34-17 at the break and then gave way to Tarleton's bench the majority of the second half with the starters playing for just an average of 25.8 minutes.

Series with Bloomfield
Saturday's contest against Bloomfield will be the first-ever meeting between the two squads.

Scouting the Hilltoppers
St. Edward's is 2-0 on the young season and is coming off a 97-64 win over Austin College back on Nov. 9. The Hilltoppers won its season-opener 95-63 against Southwestern in Austin.

The Hilltoppers are shooting .464 (65-140) from the field, which includes a .408 (20-49) effort behind the arc. SEU is averaging 49.5 rebounds and 21.0 assists per game.

James Stukes leads the team with 17.5 points per game and Harley Nussman is averaging a double-double in his first two games with 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds.

Scouting the Deacons
Bloomfield dropped its season-opener 100-93 to Dominican College in Orangeburg, N.Y., Wednesday evening.

The Deacons shot .408 percent from the field on Wednesday, but allowed DC to shoot .538 percent on the evening. Bloomfield outscored the Chargers 59-56 in the second half after trailing 44-34 at halftime.

Bloomfield, who had four of its five starters score in double figures, was led by Marvin Williams' 25 points and Clarence White's 21-point effort.

Last Time out for Texans
The Texans opened the 2013-14 campaign with a 118-54 win over Southwestern Adventist last Saturday in Stephenville. It was Tarleton's highest scoring output since pouring in 112 points against SWAU during the 1995-96 season.

Davene Carter scored a team-high 20 points and pulled down 13 boards for his first double-double of the season and the second of his career. Carter was 9-for-10 from the field on the night.

Coleman Furst added 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field (6-for-8 from the arc) and six assists, while
De'Andre Upchurch finished with 16 points on a 4-for-7 shooting effort from downtown and 6-for-11 from the field.

The Texans shot .618 from the field as a team, bettering last season's game-high percentage of .538 against West Texas A&M. It also marked the highest shooting percentage from a Tarleton team since shooting .619 percent against A&M-Commerce back on Jan. 4, 2007.

Dishing the Rock
Last season's leading scorer,
Chuck Guy (15.4 ppg), scored just six points in Tarleton's season-opening win on Saturday, but he proved to be a threat offensively as he tied a career-high with eight assists on the evening.

Coleman Furst and
Michael Hardge added six assists in the game as well and Tarleton finished the night with 23 assists total.

The 23 assists were the most in a single game for the Texans since dishing out 24 against Abilene Christian back on Feb. 23, 2011.

Newest Texans Shine
Junior College transfers Mohammed Lee and
Tashawn Mabry did not take long to get acquainted with their new teammates as both players scored in double figures on Saturday.

Donning the Purple and White for the first time, Mabry scored 14 points off the bench for the Texans, while Lee added 10 points in his 17 minutes of action.

Get that out of my yard
Coming off a season where he was named the Lone Star Conference's Defensive Player of the Year,
Jon Cathey-Macklin pulled down six rebounds and recorded a pair of blocks in Saturday's win over the Knights.

The Texans had a total of five blocks on the night with Carter, Guy and
Damion Clemons recording a block each.

Cleaning the Glass
The Texans pulled down 50 rebounds in a single game for the first time since pulling down 50 boards against Jarvis Christian back on Dec. 15, 2011.

Tarleton's highest rebounding total in a single game last season was a 46 board effort on the road against A&M-Commerce back on Jan. 26, 2013.

Staying out of foul trouble
Tarleton committed just 12 personal fouls against Southwestern Adventist on Saturday and sent the Knights to the foul line just seven times in the game.

Meanwhile, the Texans forced SWAU to commit 18 fouls and headed to the free throw line 28 times. Tarleton converted 21 of those 28 free throw line chances for a 75 percent shooting effort.

Raining Three's
Tarleton made 13 of its 24 three-point shots on Saturday on the way to a .542 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

The 13 three-pointers tied last season's high, in which the team made 13 buckets from downtown at Abilene Christian back on Feb. 9, 2013.

Nothing but Net
The Texans made 42 field goals in Saturday's 118-54 win over Southwestern Adventist, giving Tarleton its most field goals in a single game since going 45-for-65 in a 107-23 win over Hillsdale Baptist back on Dec. 15, 2003.

Prior to Saturday's offensive onslaught, the Texans had not made 40 field goals in a single game since making pouring in 40 FG's against Dallas Christian back on Dec. 31, 2004.
