STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The Tarleton Texans (12-6, 5-5 LSC) will be looking to move above .500 in Lone Star Conference play as the team hosts Angelo State (5-15, 2-10 LSC) in league-play this Wednesday, Feb. 6. Tip-off between the Texans and Rams is st for 8 p.m. inside Wisdom Gym in Stephenville.
 
QUICK HITS
• The Texans have tied a season-high, rattling off a four-game win streak after dropping its four previous games.
• The Texans downed the Lions 68-55 on Saturday and improved to 12-6 overall, while getting back to the .500 mark in Lone Star Conference play at 5-5.
• The Texans closed out the first half of LSC games last Saturday with a win at A&M-Commerce and then turned around to open the second half with a victory over the same Lion team.
• Tarleton went 4-5 in the first half of league play.
Chuck Guy (G, Jr, Fort Worth) scored a career-high 25 points in the win over the Lions on Saturday. The 25 points scored are the most by a Tarleton player this season.
 
ABOUT THE RAMS
• Head coach Fred Rike, a West Texas A&M alum, is in his seventh year at the helm of the ASU men's basketball program.
• Rike brings in an overall record of 90-95 into Wednesday's contest and is 4-9 all-time when his team plays the Texans.
• The Rams opened the season 2-0 before falling in four straight games. Tarleton came into town and the Rams downed the Texans in stunning fashion, 57-52. ASU went on to lose six-consecutive games after the LSC win, but got back into the win column with a victory over Northwood.
• ASU then downed Texas A&M-Kingsville in conference play, but have dropped five straight since that victory.
• The Rams are 0-9 this season when playing away from Stephens Arena.
• The Rams are scoring 69.8 points per game, but are giving up a league-worst 75.1 points to opponents.
• ASU is shooting just 40.1 percent from the field this season - lowest in the conference. The Rams are converting 36.3 percent of its attempts from downtown and continue to lead the league in free throw shooting at 72.3 percent.
• Jovan Austin leads the team in scoring, as he averages 12.6 points a game. Overall, the Rams have five players scoring 10.1 points or more per game. That includes Chris Talkington's 10.8 points per contest, despite having only started 11 of 18 games.
• Antonio Dye tops the team in rebounds at 5.2 boards a game, while Austin leads the team in both assists (72) and steals (33).
 
SERIES HISTORY
• The Rams lead the all-time series 35-27 after defeating the Texans 57-52 in San Angelo earlier this season.
• Tarleton had won the previous four match-ups between the two teams and had not lost to the Rams since falling 90-81 back on Feb. 27, 2010, in San Angelo.
• The Texans won both games last season, downing the Rams 76-55 at Wisdom Gym and then 67-61 at Stephens Arena.
• Tarleton is 14-2 when playing the Rams inside Wisdom Gym under head coach Lonn Reisman.
• The last time a Rams team defeated the Texans at home came back on Feb. 8, 2001. Tarleton lost 64-47, but has went on to win nine straight home games since then.
• Reisman is 25-11 against the Rams all-time.
 
GIVE ME THAT ROAD WIN
• The Texans went into last Saturday's game at A&M-Commerce having lost four straight games on the road this season. All four losses were to LSC teams and a fifth loss could severely dampen the Texans season.
• The game looked very bleak for the Texans at first as Tarleton fell behind by as many as 12 points with just over five minutes to play. Tarleton stormed back though, outscoring the Lions 50-29 over the final 25:24 (first and second half combined).
• The game was tied 43-43 at the 13:39 mark of the second half before the Texans reeled off a 17-2 run. Tarleton never looked back on the way to pickign up its first road victory of the season and first win away from Wisdom Gym since Mar. 10 of last season.
• With the win over the Lions, the Texans avoided going 0-5 on the road this season.
• The Texans had not won a contest away from Wisdom Gym in its previous five attempts dating back to last season's overtime loss to Arkansas Tech in the NCAA South Central Regional semifinal game.
• The last time a Tarleton team had dropped five-consecutive games away from home came back in the 1995-96 season.
 
WINNING AT WISDOM
• The Tarleton Texans are now 328-58 (.850) overall when playing inside the friendly confines of Wisdom Gym under head coach Lonn Reisman.
• The Texans moved to 202-25 (.890) playing under Reisman inside Wisdom Gym since 2000.
• Since joining NCAA Division II, Tarleton is 255-44 (.853) all-time at home.
 
NATIONALLY SPEAKING
• The last time national statistics came out, Tarleton ranked 7th in scoring defense. The Texans are giving up just 58.6 points per game to opposing teams. Cal-Poly continues to lead the nation giving up just over 54 points per contest. Tarleton finished the past two seasons leading the country in scoring defense.
• Tarleton ranks 47th in field goal percentage-defense, as opponents shoot just 40.5 percent from the floor.
• The Texans rank 29th in blocks per game, averaging 4.4 blocks against opposing teams.
 
GUY TOPS CAREER-BEST
Chuck Guy scored a career-high 25 points for the Texans on Saturday, toping his previous high of 22 points in Tarleton's win over West Texas A&M back on Jan. 19.
• Guy is the only Texan player to score 20 points or more on more than one occasion this season. In fact, Guy has scored 20 points or more in three games this season. He set a career-high with 21 points in Tarleton's win over East Central back on Nov. 17.
 
CATHEY-MACKLIN AMONG NATION'S BEST
• Tarleton's Jon Cathey-Macklin (F, Jr, Milwaukee, Wis.) averages 1.4 blocks per game, which ranks first in the LSC and inside the top-100 in the nation.
• Cathey-Macklin recorded a new-season high with four blocks against the Lions. The big man leads the Texans with 22 blocked shots so far this season.
 
CATHEY-MACKLIN TABBED LSC DEFENSIVE POW FOR SECOND TIME
Jon Cathey-Macklin was named this week's LSC Defensive Player of the Week. He averaged 8.5 boards a game, and recorded his best game of the season on Wednesday - scoring a career-high 17 points and pulling down a career-high 11 boards for his first-ever double-double while at Tarleton.
• Cathey-Macklin was also named the defensive POW back on Jan. 21, after he averaged 6.0 boards a game and was a huge part in the Texans allowing opposing teams to less than 55 points a contest and just 39.0 percent shooting from the field that past week..
• The junior forward dominated opposing team's post players to score just a combined 20 points. ENMU's big men scored just four points in the contest and Cathey-Macklin helped limit WT's Donald Sims to just 10 points in Tarleton's 65-50 win over the Buffs.
• Cathey-Macklin became the first Tarleton player to earn LSC weekly honors for the 2012-13 season.
 
HOW THE LSC IS STACKING UP SO FAR
• The Texans were picked to win the LSC. Tarleton currently sits alone in sixth place at 5-5, but are just a half game out of being in a tie for fifth place with Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M (6-6).
• MSU, who was picked to finish second, is in first place with a 10-2 record in league play.
• WTAMU's Donald Sims was named the LSC's Preseason Player of the Year; he currently ranks 7th in scoring (14.3 ppg), first in rebounds (8.7 rpg) and first in field goal percentage (.689).
 
OPENING UP THE LSC SCHEDULE
• Tarleton dropped its LSC opener for the first time since Jan. 14, 2009 with its five-point loss to Angelo State on Wednesday.
• The Texans are now 12-7 in LSC openers since joining the league in 1994.
 
TEXANS PICKED TO WIN LSC
• The Texans were selected to defend its LSC Championship, earning the No. 1 ranking in the preseason poll released by the league office on Oct. 25, 2012.
• Tarleton received 12 of a possible 29 first-place votes in the poll.
• Midwestern State received 12 first-place votes in the poll as well, but Tarleton took the top spot earning 269 total points to MSU's 262.
 
TEXANS DEBUT 2012-13 SEASON AT NO. 17 IN NABC PRESEASON POLL
• The Texans finished the 2011-12 campaign at No. 9 in the nation and head into the new season at No. 17 according to a preseason poll released by the NABC on Nov. 2.
• Tarleton was the highest ranked LSC team in the preseason poll. MSU debuts at No. 23 in 2012-13 after finishing No. 5 last season.
• Including the 2012-13 campaign, Tarleton has been preseason ranked inside the top-25 seven times.
 
TARLETON IN SEASON-OPENERS
• Tarleton snapped a 10-game winning streak in season openers after falling 73-60 to Southwestern Assemblies of God in the 2012-13 opening game. Tarleton fell to 21-4 in season-openers under coach Reisman.
• Tarleton's last loss in a season-opener had come back in 2001 against Wingate (73-83).
 
REISMAN AMONG WINNINGEST ACTIVE COACHES IN NATION
Lonn Reisman entered the 2012-13 season with a .702 winning percentage, which ranks 12th overall among active coaches in NCAA D-II.
• Reisman's .702 winning percentage ranks 26th overall among active coaches in both NCAA Division I and II.
 
TEXANS RANKED NO. 1 IN DEFENSE LAST SEASON
• The Texans finished the season ranked No. 1 overall in scoring defense for a second-straight year after allowing opponents to just 56.3 points per game in 2012-13. The Texans allowed just 53.3 points to finish no. 1 in 2010-11.
 
UP NEXT
• Tarleton returns to the road for a pair of road games beginning with Saturday's contest in Abilene to face the Abilene Christian Wildcats. Tip-off between the Texans and Wildcats is set for 7:30 p.m.
• Tarleton will then travel to Texas A&M-Kingsville next Wednesday, Feb. 13 to close out the season series with the Javelinas.
