ABILENE, Texas - The Tarleton Texans (13-6, 6-5 LSC) return to the road for the first time in three games as the team travels to play the Abilene Wildcats (11-10, 5-8 LSC) this Saturday, Feb. 9 in Abilene. The Texans and Wildcats are scheduled to tip-off at 7:20 p.m. inside Moody Coliseum.
QUICK HITS
• The Texans are coming off its season-high fifth straight win after defeating Angleo State 67-44 on Wednesday night. Tarleton avenged it's five-point loss to the Rams earlier this season to tie the season series between the two teams.
• Tarleton takes a one-game winning streak on the road into Abilene this Saturday. Tarleton picked up its first road win the last time the team traveled away from Wisdom Gym, defeating A&M-Commerce 70-61 in Commerce.
• This will be the first contest of a two-game road swing for the Texans. Tarleton plays on the road for three of its next four games.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
• Head coach Joe Golding is in his second year at the helm of the ACU men's basketball program.
• Golding brings in an overall record of 23-26 into Saturday's contest. He is now 0-3 all-time when his team plays the Texans after falling to Tarleton in the first game of the series back in December.
• Golding was a four-year letterwinner at ACU from 1994-98, playing in all
108 games, and was given the Teague Point Guard Award as a senior. He shot 46 percent from the floor over his four-year career, and averaged 4.3 points and 4.2 assists per game.
• The Wildcats are coming off a 60-57 win over A&M-Commerce in Commerce on Wednesday night. ACU lead 30-18 at the break, limiting the Lions to just 24 percent shooting from the field in the first half. Elliott Lloyd led the Wildcats with 15 points, while Dosh Simms led ACU on the boards with 12 rebounds.
• The Wildcats started the season 4-1 before losing six of its next 7 contests. Since Jan. 8, the Wildcats have posted a 6-3 mark and if the season was over on Wednesday, ACU would have beaten out the Lions for the final spot in the conference tournament.
• ACU is averaging 72.1 points per game (3rd in LSC) and giving up 67.0 points to opponents so far this season.
• The Wildcats are shooting 47.0 percent from the field, which ranks second in the league. ACU's 40.3 percent from beyond the arc leads the LSC and ranks 16th in the nation as well. ACU is shooting 63.4 percent as a team from the charity stripe.
• ACU's Eric Lawton is third in the conference with a team-leading 16.7 points per game. He is 56th in the nation averaging 4.6 assists per game.
• Dosh Simms leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game. He is second in the league in boards per game.
• Cornelius Cammock, who averages 8.4 points per game, is third in the LSC with a 55.4 shooting percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
• Tarleton leads the all-time series 34-30 after defeating the Wildcats 64-50 earlier this seaosn. Tarleotn won both contests between the two teams last season.
• Tarleton has now won eight consecutive meetings between the two teams, dating back to an 80-64 win over the Wildcats on Feb. 18, 2009.
• Tarleton's last loss to ACU came back on Jan. 28, 2009 - a 73-70 decision in
avor of the Wildcats in Abilene.
• The Texans have won 24 of the past 25 games over ACU.

NEW LINE-UP, NO PROBLEM
• The Texans are now 5-1 with the current starting line-up consisting of
Chuck Guy (G, Jr, Fort Worth),
Coleman Furst (G, Jr, Denison),
Brian Word (G, Sr, Baltimore, Md.),
Jon Cathey-Macklin (F, Jr, Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Damion Clemons (F, So, Dallas).
• The only loss this starting line-up has been dealt, was when the Texans fell 69-66 to Eastern New Mexico on the road. The Greyhounds hit a three-pointer in the waining moments to get the victory.
• With this starting line-up, the Texans are averaging 65.2 points per game and are only giving up 53.5 points to opposing teams. A&M-Commerce is the only team to score more than 60 points against this starting line-up. Tarleton won the game game 70-61.
• When the Texans start the game with these players, Tarleton is shooting 44.9 percent from the field and are giving up just 38.5 percent from the floor. The Texans are out-rebounding opponents 34.0 rebounds per game to 29.2 boards per game for the opposing foes.
• Tarleton has 26 blocks in the last six games when this group starts.
THIS “GUY” IS GOOD
• Tarleton's
Chuck Guy is averaging 19.6 points per game in the Texans current five-game winning streak. The junior scored a career-high 25 points this past Saturday and then turned around to pour in a 23-point effort on Wednesday night against Angelo State.
• In the past five games, Guy has dished out 23 assists, averaged 5.2 rebounds per game and has nine steals.
• Guy is shooting nearly 47 percent from the field, which includes a 38 percent effort from beyond the arc. More impressively, Guy is 29-for-35 in the last five games at the charity stripe.
CATHEY-MACKLIN TABBED LSC DEFENSIVE POW FOR SECOND TIME
•
Jon Cathey-Macklin was named this week's LSC Defensive Player of the Week. He averaged 8.5 boards a game, and recorded his best game of the season on Wednesday - scoring a career-high 17 points and pulling down a career-high 11 boards for his first-ever double-double while at Tarleton.
• Cathey-Macklin was also named the defensive POW back on Jan. 21, after he averaged 6.0 boards a game and was a huge part in the Texans allowing opposing teams to less than 55 points a contest and just 39.0 percent shooting from the field that past week..
• The junior forward dominated opposing team's post players to score just a combined 20 points. ENMU's big men scored just four points in the contest and Cathey-Macklin helped limit WT's Donald Sims to just 10 points in Tarleton's 65-50 win over the Buffs.
• Cathey-Macklin became the first Tarleton player to earn LSC weekly honors for the 2012-13 season.
TAKING TO THE ROAD WITH A WIN STREAK
• Tarleton picked up its first and only road win of the season the last time it played away from Wisdom Gym, defeating A&M-Commerce 70-61.
• The Texans wiped away a 12-point deficit and came away with the win to snap a five-game losing streak away from the friendly confines of Wisdom Gym.
WINNING AT WISDOM
• The Tarleton Texans are now 329-58 (.850) overall when playing inside the friendly confines of Wisdom Gym under head coach
Lonn Reisman.
• The Texans moved to 203-25 (.890) playing under Reisman inside Wisdom Gym since 2000.
• Since joining NCAA Division II, Tarleton is 256-44 (.853) all-time at home.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING
• The last time national statistics came out, Tarleton ranked 7th in scoring defense. The Texans are giving up just 58.6 points per game to opposing teams. Cal-Poly continues to lead the nation giving up just over 54 points per contest. Tarleton finished the past two seasons leading the country in scoring defense.
• Tarleton ranks 47th in field goal percentage-defense, as opponents shoot just 40.5 percent from the floor.
• The Texans rank 29th in blocks per game, averaging 4.4 blocks against opposing teams.
HOW THE LSC IS STACKING UP SO FAR
• The Texans were picked to win the LSC. Tarleton currently sits alone in fourth place at 6-5, following its win over the Rams on Wednesday.
• MSU, who was picked to finish second, is in first place with a 11-2 record in league play.
• WTAMU's Donald Sims was named the LSC's Preseason Player of the Year; he currently ranks 7th in scoring (14.3 ppg), first in rebounds (8.7 rpg) and first in field goal percentage (.689).
OPENING UP THE LSC SCHEDULE
• Tarleton dropped its LSC opener for the first time since Jan. 14, 2009 with its five-point loss to Angelo State on Wednesday.
• The Texans are now 12-7 in LSC openers since joining the league in 1994.
TEXANS PICKED TO WIN LSC
• The Texans were selected to defend its LSC Championship, earning the No. 1 ranking in the preseason poll released by the league office on Oct. 25, 2012.
• Tarleton received 12 of a possible 29 first-place votes in the poll.
• Midwestern State received 12 first-place votes in the poll as well, but Tarleton took the top spot earning 269 total points to MSU's 262.
TEXANS DEBUT 2012-13 SEASON AT NO. 17 IN NABC PRESEASON POLL
• The Texans finished the 2011-12 campaign at No. 9 in the nation and head into the new season at No. 17 according to a preseason poll released by the NABC on Nov. 2.
• Tarleton was the highest ranked LSC team in the preseason poll. MSU debuts at No. 23 in 2012-13 after finishing No. 5 last season.
• Including the 2012-13 campaign, Tarleton has been preseason ranked inside the top-25 seven times.
TARLETON IN SEASON-OPENERS
• Tarleton snapped a 10-game winning streak in season openers after falling 73-60 to Southwestern Assemblies of God in the 2012-13 opening game. Tarleton fell to 21-4 in season-openers under coach Reisman.
• Tarleton's last loss in a season-opener had come back in 2001 against Wingate (73-83).
REISMAN AMONG WINNINGEST ACTIVE COACHES IN NATION
•
Lonn Reisman entered the 2012-13 season with a .702 winning percentage, which ranks 12th overall among active coaches in NCAA D-II.
• Reisman's .702 winning percentage ranks 26th overall among active coaches in both NCAA Division I and II.
TEXANS RANKED NO. 1 IN DEFENSE LAST SEASON
• The Texans finished the season ranked No. 1 overall in scoring defense for a second-straight year after allowing opponents to just 56.3 points per game in 2012-13. The Texans allowed just 53.3 points to finish no. 1 in 2010-11.
UP NEXT
• The Texans continue its road swing next Wednesday, Feb. 13, traveling to Kingsville to take on the Javelinas at Hampton Inn Court. Tip-off between the two teams is set for 8 p.m. in Kingsville.
