DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Tarleton women's golf team will begin play at the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships on Wednesday, May 15 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The championships will be held Wednesday through Saturday and are being co-hosted by the Sunshine State Conference and the Central Florida Sports Commission.

The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores for each team will count in each day's total score.

The TexAnns will tee off from Hole No. 1 at 7:50 a.m. (CST) on Wednesday and Hole No. 10 at 8:20 a.m. on Thursday. The teams will then be repaired for the final two rounds on Friday and Saturday. Tarleton will be paired with California (Pa.) and Northeastern State the first two days.

Tarleton, which qualified for the event by finishing third at the West Super Regional in Grand Junction, Colo. is making its seventh consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships.

“We are going into the tournament this week as an underdog and I like that,” Tarleton head women's golf coach Jerry Doyle said. “After the finish we had at the [West] Regional last week, I think the ladies will go in more prepared. It is going to be a tough field this year as it always is, but it is time to turn it on now. There is no looking back.”

Joining the TexAnns out of the West Regional is St. Edward's and Grand Canyon. Advancing to the championship from the Central Region are Central Oklahoma, Augustana and Northeastern State. Teams from the East Region include Indianapolis, Ashland, and California (Pa.), while Lynn, Nova Southeastern and Barry round out the field from the South Region.

Of the entire field, Taleton and Nova Southeastern are tied for the most NCAA appearances with seven trips each. The TexAnns have a pair of fourth-place finishes (2010, 2011), three fifth-place finishes, (2007, 2008, 2012) and one sixth-place finish (2009).

Seven of the 12 teams (Tarleton, Nova Southeastern, Augustana, Barry, Central Oklahoma, Indianapolis, California-Pa.) competing in this year's championships were participants in the 2012 national championships.

The TexAnns placed fifth in last year's event held at Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky., carding a four-day score of 139-over par (338+322+309+322=1,291). Nova Southeastern won last year's title 20 strokes ahead of Florida Southern. Grand Canyon finished third overall and Barry finished just ahead of Tarleton in fourth place.

The TexAnn starting lineup this week will consist of sophomore Jessica Pickwick, freshman Isabell Jimenez-Perea, junior Sarah Fulfer, senior Jacqueline Lau and junior Sharon Lau.

Pickwick is coming off a finish where she tied for seventh place at the West Regional, where she shot a 20-over total of 233. She has finished in the top-10 in all 10 events she has played in this season, which includes winning the Doc Housewright Invitational and an eighth place finish in the Lone Star Conference Championships.

Jimenez-Perea and Fulfer each tied for 12th place in the West Regional with scores of 24-over par 237. Fulfer, who has one top-10 finish and three top-15 finishes this season, shot Tarleton's low round at the West Regional, carding a four-over 75 in the first round. Jimenez-Perea won three events this year (Concho River Classic, St. Martin's Invitational, Lady Rattler Roundup) and has seven top-10 finishes as well.

J. Lau finished in 34th place with a three-day score of 33-over 246 in the West Regional, while S. Lau came in right behind her in a tie for 35th place with a total score of 34-over par 247. J. Lau won the Oklahoma Collegiate event back in the fall and has five top-10 finishes on the year. S. Lau finished third overall at the Viking Invitational and has another top-10 finish to her credit this year.

With this being Tarleton's seventh-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships, four of Tarleton's five starters already have experience in this event. J. Lau is making her fourth and final appearance in the national championships on Wednesday, while S. Lau makes her third appearance. Fulfer and Pickwick both competed in last year's event and will be making their second start at the national championships.

J. Lau's best finish came as a freshman in 2010 when she finished in a tie for 13th place after carding a four-day score of 18-over 306. She finished in a tie for 15th place (+13, 301) in 2011 and tied for 16th place (+30, 318) last year.

S. Lau finished in ninth place her freshman year in 2011, carding a nine-over 297. In last year's championship, she finished in a tie for 23rd place with a score of 33-over 321.

Pickwick finished in a tie for 33rd place in last year's event, carding a 38-over 326 and Fulfer tallied a 65-over par 353 to finish in a tie for 60th place.

This will be the third time that the championship has been hosted in the state of Florida and the first time at LPGA International.

LPGA International Legends course measures 7,088 yards from the back tees. The tournament tees off at 7:30 a.m. (CST) Wednesday.

"This is a great course and it has a great track, but it will be tough," Doyle said following the TexAnn's practice round on Tuesday. "The greens are very good and not real fast. They seemed a little grainy but the ladies played very well today. They will be ready for competition tomorrow."
