LIBERTY, Mo. – Tarleton State senior defensive back
Dashaun Phillips has been tabbed a D2Football.com Preseason All-American, according to a release from D2Football.com's website.
Phillips recorded 32 total tackles on the season in 2012 and had a team-high eight pass breakups. He tallied one tackle-for-loss and had one interception as well. Phillips also tallied one forced fumble and had one blocked kick on the year.
Phillips earned First Team All-Lone Star Conference honors following the 2012 regular season last year and was also named to the Don Hansen First Team All-Region Four squad.
A 2012 Beyond Sports Network Preseason All-American, Phillips led Tarleton and the LSC with seven interceptions and 15 pass deflections in 2011. Following the 2011 season Phillips earned First Team All-LSC and All-Super Region Four team honors. The Duncanville native was also named the LSC Defensive Back of the Year for his efforts.
The Texans are coming off a 6-4 season in 2012, in which the team won the final three contests of the year. Tarleton will open the 2013 campaign against Midwestern State on Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Lone Star Football Festival at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Kickoff between the Texans and Mustangs is set for 4 p.m.
