LUBBOCK – Tarleton State wrapped up its first ever NCAA Indoor Track and Field meet with 15 top-10 finishes, including six top-5 finishers and two wins in the Mile Run by
Dylan Willett and
Aly Coughlin.
Willett and Couglin dominated the Mile Run to highlight the afternoon, finishing the race in 4:19.97 and 5:07.68, respectively, to earn Tarleton's only victories Saturday.
Of the six top-five finishes, two came in individual races, three came in the field events and the final one came in the day's last event – the men's 4x400m relay.
Chase Rathke came up 0.77 seconds short of winning the Mile Run, finishing in second place behind Willett, by running a time of 4:20.74 while
Gilson Umunnakwe claimed fourth place in the 400m Dash with a time of 49.52 to round out the individual runners in the top five.
On the field,
Kenny Odunaiya and
William Webb each took home a third-place finish in the weight throw and pole vault, respectively, while
Brianna Johnson took fifth in the women's weight throw.
Odunaiya launched the weight 15.47m (50' 9.25'') while Webb lifted up 4.65m (15' 3'') for his bronze finish. Johnson threw the weight 13.14m (43' 1.5'') for her top five finish.
The men's 4x400m relay team of
Clarencio Guerrero,
Blake Eschbach,
Cameron Krc and Umunnakwe finished the entire meet by running a time of 3:18.38, winning their heat and finished in fifth place.
Also finding success on the day were Tarleton's seven top-10 finishers.
Lindsey Hinton,
Katelin Huckabee and Krc each claimed a sixth place finish in their respective races – the Mile Run, 3000m Run and 400m Dash. Hinton completed the mile in 5:14.07, Huckabee completed the 3K in 11:16.19 and Krc finished the 400m Dash in 49.72.
Shelby Terry and
Tye Doty posted seventh place finished in the high jump and Mile Run, respectively. Terry leaped 1.61m (5' 3.25'') while Doty ran a time of 4:24.59 in the mile.
Brian Cooper and Guerrero finished 10
th in their respective races. Cooper running the 800m in 2:02.66 and Guerrero the 400m Dash in 50.55.
Tarleton will return home until making the trip back to Lubbock in February 14-15 for their final regular season meet of the indoor season at the Athletic Training Center at Texas Tech.
