STEPHENVILLE – The academic accolades continue to pour in for Tarleton State senior safety
Charles Moore, who was named a Capital One Academic All-American by CoSIDA this afternoon.
"I thought Charles had an All-American year as a football player this year," said head coach
Cary Fowler. "He performed at an All-American level and he played every single defensive snap for us for the past three seasons. His preparation as a football player, that allowed him to play at that level, is the same preparation he takes into the classroom. It's no mystery why he's being recognized next week as one of the top 17 academic football players – from all levels – in the country.
"It would be very hard for someone to show me a better student, football player and person in this country than
Charles Moore," he added.
Moore, who was named one of 17 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athletes last month, will be traveling to New York Monday to take part in the presentation ceremony of the William V. Campbell trophy, presented to the nation's top academic football player from all levels.
The senior from Carrollton maintains a 3.83 grade point average as a Kinesiology major and will be named the Kinesiology department's outstanding graduate when he receives his undergraduate degree later this month. He was also an academic all-conference selection by the Lone Star Conference.
On the field, Moore led the Texans with five interceptions and was fourth on the team with 76 total tackles. He also had five pass breakups and recovered a fumble en route to being named first-team all-conference.
He becomes the fourth Academic All-America selection in Tarleton's history, joining Tommy Konz, Ricky Bush and Mike Loveless, but the first Texan to be named an Academic All-American since Tarleton became an NCAA institution in 1994. Loveless was the last to earn the honor in 1990.
