ARKADELPHIA, AR – Tarleton State wrapped up its visit to the Henderson State/Ouachita Baptist Tennis Tournament Saturday night with a split – falling to No. 18 Southwest Baptist and sweeping tournament host, Ouachita Baptist 9-0.

The day began with a battle of regional powers as Southwest Baptist, ranked No. 18 in the nation and No. 1 in their region, squared off with Tarleton, who is No. 31 in the nation and No. 3 in the South Central regional polls.

The Wildcats bested the TexAnns 7-2 despite hard-fought efforts from Tarleton.

In doubles play, all three matches were close with Tarleton dropping the No. 1 and No. 2 matches 8-3, 8-5, respectively, with the duo of Melanie Barnes and Silvia Nieva earning a victory in the No. 3 match 8-5.

In singles action, Tarleton dropped each of the first five games with Alicia Perez falling 6-1, 6-4 in the top-seeded match and Ivana Zecevic dropping a tight 6-4, 6-3 match. Marina Rull (6-1, 6-1) and Luiza Adas (6-0, 7-5) dropped their No. 3 and 5 matches while Barnes took her No. 4 match three sets and ultimately fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Silvia Nieva was the lone winner in singles action with an 8-0 victory in the No. 6 match.

Tarleton made a quick turnaround and wasted no time in handing the tournament-host Tigers a 9-0 defeat.

Alicia Perez and Ellie Stevens combined for an 8-0 win in the top-seeded doubles match while Aprile Downing and Mackenzie Mitchell also swept the Tigers tandem in the No. 2 match. The No. 3 match was given to Tarleton by default as OBU didn't field a third doubles pairing.

In singles, Stevens won the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-2 while Mitchell (7-5, 6-2) and April Downing (6-1, 6-0) took care of business in the No. 3 and No. 4 matches. Due to OBU's lack of available players, Rull (1), Adas (5) and Nieva (6) earned victories in their respective matches.

Tarleton will stay on the road as they visit East Central University for a 1:30 p.m. match in Ada, Oklahoma Thursday afternoon.
