STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State tennis continued its winning ways Saturday afternoon, improving to 2-0 on the young season with a 6-3 win over St. Edward's.
Tarleton was forced to play from behind right away as the No. 1 doubles team fell to the Hilltoppers 8-1, but the Tarleton tandems of
Alicia Perez and
Makenzie Mitchell in the No. 2 match and the
Melanie Barnes and
Silvia Nieva pairing in the No. 3 match.
Barnes and Bieva won their set 8-2 while Perez and Mitchell were forced to end the game due to an injury and won the game 5-4.
In singles action, St. Edward's took the No. 1 and 3 matches from Tarleton, but the TexAnns stopped any comeback attempt by taking
Ivana Zecevic's match in the No.2 spot and sweeping the No. 4-6 spots with Nieva haven't the most difficult night with a 6-2, 7-5 battle.
Tarleton will be back on the road next weekend when they visit Sam Houston State at 1:30 p.m.
