No. 2 Texans Fall to Lions 79-76 in Regular Season Finale

Box Score COMMERCE – The No.2-ranked Tarleton State men's basketball team dropped its final contest of the season, 79-76, to A&M-Commerce on the road at TAMUC Fieldhouse in Commerce on Saturday.
 
The Texans fall to 24-2 overall and 12-2 in Lone Star Conference play, but still managed to claim a share of the league title and claim the No. 1 seed in the upcoming LSC Championship Tournament.
 
Chuck Guy paced the offense with 18 points, while four other Texans added double figures on Saturday.
 
Along with Guy's 18 points, De'Andre Upchurch poured in 16 points and De'Andre Carter added 14 points. Coleman Furst scored 12 points and Jon Cathey-Macklin scored 10 points to give all five starters double-figure efforts.
 
The Texans were down 37-26 at the break and managed to come back tie the game 39-39 with 17:30 still to play in the second half after an Upchurch three-pointer. Tarleton would take a three-point lead after Guy's three-pointer on the next possession, but TAMUC came right back with a three-pointer to tie the game.
 
Tarleton would come back to take a seven-point advantage with 12:21 left to play on another three-pointer from Guy and  continued to keep a lead all the way until the 32-second mark when the Lions' Tyrie Wooten poured in a pair of free throws to make it a 77-76 game.
 
Tarleton missed on its next possession and scored the game's final two points on a pair of free throws from Devondrick Walker. Tarleton's Emmanuel Andrews attempted a three-pointer with two seconds left to take the lead, but his shot was off the mark and A&M-C pulled down the rebound to secure the win.
 
The Texans shot 39 percent from the field and were 74.2 percent from the charity stripe on Saturday, while managing to out-rebound the Lions 41-39.
 
The Texans share the LSC title with Midwestern State, but earn the league's No. 1 seed do to tie-breakers and will next face West Texas A&M in the first round of the LSC Championship on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in Allen.
