Best, Terry hit NCAA provisional marks in Decathlon, Heptathlon to finish off ASU Spring Break Multi

Tarleton's Peyton Best and Shelby Terry each hit an NCAA provisional mark in the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon, respectively, to wrap up the two-day event at Angelo State Friday.
 
After running five events of the decathlon, Best has amassed 3,412 points yesterday. The sophomore ran the 100m in 11.26, jumped 6.51m (20-1.5) in the long jump, launched the shot put 11.61m (38-1.25), leaped 1.82m (5-11.5) in the high jump and ran a 51.07 in the 400m to earn his position heading into Friday's final competition.
 
Saturday, the sophomore polished off the meet with a run of 16.65 in the 110m hurdles, a toss of 36.41m (119-5) in the discus, a pole vault of 3.14m (10-3.5), a javelin throw of 47.55m (156-0) and a time of 4:46.61 in the 1500m run to round out his day.
 
He amassed a total of 6247 to finish in ninth place overall and secure the NCAA mark.
 
Terry, meanwhile, who Terry ran the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.76, leaped to a height of 1.54m (5-0.5) in the high jump, launched the shot put 9.43m (30-11.25) and ran the 200m in 26.68 to earn her points yesterday, capped off the meet in seventh place overall.
 
The senior finished the long jump in 5.14m (16-10.5), threw the javelin 28.14m (92-4) and ran the 800m in 2:33.08 to claim a seventh place finish with 4465 points and secure the NCAA mark.
 
Amanda Smith also finished off her meet by moving up three spots on day two to finish 12th overall.
 
After starting the day in 15th place, she leaped 4.34m (14-3) in the long jump, tossed the javelin 27.83m (91-3) and ran the 800m in 2:29.63 to secure her finish.
 
The three multi-event athletes will return to Stephenville while the rest of the Tarleton men's and women's track and field team is competing at the Warhawk Classic at McMurry tonight and Saturday.
