TexAnns drop LSC opener on road at Cameron Tuesday

LAWTON, OK –
Tarleton State dropped its Lone Star Conference opener on the road Tuesday afternoon in a hard-fought battle of South Central regional powers.
 
Tarleton entered the match as the South Central region's No. 3 ranked team while Cameron checked in at No. 4, creating a battle for postseason seeding between the TexAnns and Aggies.
 
The day began with Cameron jumping out to a quick 2-1 lead after doubles.
 
Silvia Nieva and Melanie Barnes earned the only Tarleton doubles win of the day with an 8-4 victory while the No. 1 tandem of Ivana Zecevic and Luiza Adas and the No. 2 pairing of Alicia Perez and Makenzie Mitchell both suffered 6-8 losses heading into singles action.
 
The teams split the singles play with the TexAnns and Aggies each earning three wins.
 
Perez handled her business in the No. 1 match with a 6-1, 6-3 win while fellow senior, Melanie Barnes, needed a third set to earn a win 7-6 (4-0), 1-6, 6-3 in the No. 3 match. Marina Rull took the final Tarleton win of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 5 match.
 
Tarleton dropped the No. 2 match 1-6, 1-6; the No. 4 match 6-3, 3-6, 1-6; and the No. 6 match 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.
 
Tarleton will be off until April 8 when they will return home to face the region's No. 1-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs. The TexAnns will debut the brand new tennis courts in Stephenville prior to the game. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. with a 2 p.m. tennis match to follow.
