Best, Terry increase national rankings with marks at ASU Multi-Event meet

Peyton Best and Shelby Terry moved into the top 10 multi-event athletes in NCAA Division II after improving their provisional marks in the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively, Friday.
 
Best had five more events to complete Friday afternoon and finished with 6643 en route to a third place finish. His mark of 6643 has him at No. 8 in the nation in the decathlon standings.
 
The sophomore ran the 110m Hurdles in 16.57 and the 1500m 4:42.59 while throwing the discus 35.68m (117' 0'') and the javelin 51.38m (168' 7'') while leaping 3.47m (11' 4.5'') in the pole vault.
 
In the women's heptathlon, meanwhile, Terry finished fifth in the eventh with a score of 4598 and improved to No. 9 in the nation in the seven-event competition. Terry's, TexAnn teammate, Amanda Smith finished seventh with 3220 points.
 
In the final three events, Terry jumped 4.93m (16' 2.25'') in the long jump, threw the javelin 29.89m (98' 0'') and ran a 2:34.15 in the 800m. Smith jumped 4.53m (14' 10.5'') in the long jump, tossed the javelin 24.26m (79' 7'') and ran a 2:30.42 in the 800m.
 
Friday was the final day of the multi-event meet in San Angelo. The rest of the Tarleton track and field teams will be in Abilene tomorrow to take part in the Wes Kittley Invitational at Abilene Christian
