STEPHENVILLE –
The Tarleton Tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a home split against Division I Oral Roberts and LSC rival Texas A&M-Kingsville last weekend and now turn their attention to the LSC Championships next week.

Tarleton started the weekend with a tough 4-2 loss against Division I Oral Roberts, getting wins in the No.1 match from Alicia Perez (1-6, 6-4, 6-0) and the No. 5 match from Silvia Nieva (6-2, 6-2) but dropping the No. 3, 4 and 6 matches, as well as the collective group of doubles - which was credited as one decision in a Division I match.

In Saturday's senior day finale, Tarleton rebounded to snap their four-game losing skid by earning a Lone Star Conference victory over the Javelinas 8-1.

Tarleton opened the afternoon by taking two of three in doubles action with an 8-0 win from Perez and Mackenzie Mitchell in the No. 2 match and an 8-1 win from seniors April Downing and Melanie Barnes in the No. 3 match.

Kingsville earned its only win of the day with a 9-7 tiebreaker win in the No. 1 doubles match.

In singles, Tarleton swept the field despite having to play tough tiebreaking sets in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Perez won the top-seeded match 1-6, 7-6 (6-0), and 10-8 while Ivana Zecevic took the No. 2 match 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Marina Rull (6-1, 6-1) and Silvia Nieva (6-4, 6-1) took the No. 3 and 4 matches while Ellie Stevens and Mitchell wasted little time earning wins in the No. 5 and 6 matches 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.

After finishing the season 12-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play, Tarleton will be the No. 3 seed in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament at the Southlake Tennis Complex next weekend and will play No. 2 seed Cameron Friday at 2 p.m.
