STEPHENVILLE –
Tarleton dropped a battle of national and regional powerhouses Tuesday afternoon as the region's No. 3-seeded TexAnns fell to the region's No. 1-seeded Midwestern State Mustangs 8-1.

This was Tarleton's first game on the new tennis courts, which were officially unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.

Ivana Zecevic, the nation's No. 41 ranked singles player, earned the only win of the day, and the first on the renovated courts, in a three-set, super-tiebreaker against the nation's No. 33-ranked singles player. The sophomore dropped the first set 2-6 but battled back with a 6-4 win to force the tiebreaker.

Zecevic fell behind in the tiebreaker 4-6 but rallied with six of the next eight total points scored to take the set 10-8 and the match.

Tarleton fell behind from the get-go, however, as the Mustangs took all three doubles sets.

The tandem of Alicia Perez and Luiza Adas in the No. 1 match fell to the nation's No. 20 ranked duo in a hard-fought 8-4 battle while Ivana Zacevic and Mackenzie Mitchell dropped the No. 2 match 8-3. Melanie Barnes and Silvia Nieva fell 8-2 in the third game.

In singles, Alicia Perez pushed her No. 1-seeded match to three sets after winning the first set 6-2 and falling 3-6 in the second. MSU won the deciding set 6-4.

Barnes (2-6, 1-6) and Adas (1-6, 1-6) lost matches three and four while Rull (1-6, 2-6) and Nieva (4-6, 4-6) dropped matches five and singles.

Tarleton is now 11-4 on the season and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference action. They will be on the road Saturday when they visit Dallas Baptist before playing their final two matches of the regular season in Stephenville on April 18 and 19.
