THE GAME
Riding the momentum of an eight-game winning streak, the No. 11 Tarleton State Texans head south for a Saturday night contest at the Steinke Center against the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas.
THE BROADCAST
The game will have a live radio broadcast presented by the Tarleton Sports Network presented by North Texas Ford Dealers. The Voice of the Texans,
Casey Hogan, will be back calling the play-by-play for Tarleton basketball this season. The broadcast can be heard on KTRL 90.5 FM in Stephenville and surrounding areas or online at TarletonSports.com/ListenLive. The pregame show will begin 15 minutes prior to tip-off.
THE OPPONENT
In the first season after the retirement of longtime head coach Pete Peterson, the Javelinas are 7-15 in the debut season of new head coach - and Peterson protégé - Johnny Estelle. Kingsville boasts three players averaging double-figure scoring efforts, led by
Troy Jones with 13.1 points per game. The Javelinas have come up just short in their LSC debut under Estelle, earning just two wins thus far in conference play. Both LSC wins have come against Eastern New Mexico.
THE SERIES
Saturday night's game will be the 55th game between Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kings- ville since Tarleton became a senior college in 1961. Tarleton has a record of 33-21 against the Javelinas since 1961, including a record of 29-11 since
Lonn Reisman took over the program in 1988. The Texans have won nine of 17 meetings in Kingsville since Reisman became the head coach.
ONE-SIDED SERIES SINCE '02
Since a 72-64 win for Tarleton State on Feb. 21, 2002, the Texans have been in complete control of this series. Tarleton State has won 24 of the last 27 games against the Javelinas, including a record of 8-2 in Kingsville over that span.
EYEING THE REGULAR SEASON SWEEP
Tarleton State will look to sweep the Javelinas in the regular season for the ninth time under Reisman (in seasons when Tarleton played the Javelinas more than once in a season).
TARLETON IN THE LSC
Tarleton State has developed into one of the premier basketball programs in the nation, as well as within the Lone Star Conference.
Lonn Reisman is the only Texan coach to lead Tarleton through the LSC as an NCAA coach. He has amassed a record of 187-93 in Tarleton's 20 years as an NCAA conference member. Reisman and the Texans have won three LSC regular season championships, three LSC championship tournament title - including the last two - and has also won at least 10 conference games in four straight seasons.
TARLETON IN NATIONAL POLLS
After starting the season ranked No. 12 in the nation, Tarleton State moved up nine total spots to No. 3 over the first 12 games of the season, and after going as low as 15 and spending the last two weeks at 12, the Texans are moving up again in the latest poll at No. 11. This now marks the 30th consecutive week in which Tarleton has appeared in the national rankings since joining the polls on Nov. 19, 2013.
