THE GAME
Tarleton State is back home in a crucial game for LSC Championship Tournament seeding Saturday night when the TexAnns play host to Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
SENIOR NIGHT
Prior to the start of the game, Tarleton State will recognize its two seniors -
Kathy Thomas and
Karli Moore. Thomas is a two-year letterwinner for the TexAnns while Moore has suited up for the Purple and White for the last four seasons.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
With a win Saturday night, Tarleton State will secure the No. 4 seed in next week's Lone Star Conference tournament as well as the sixth consecutive season with at least 17 wins. A loss would make Tarleton the No. 6 seed in next week's tournament.
THE BROADCAST
The game will have a live radio broadcast presented by the Tarleton Sports Network presented by North Texas Ford Dealers. The Voice of the TexAnns, Keltin Wiens, will serve as the play-by-play for Tarleton basketball this season. The radio broadcast can be heard on KTRL 90.5 FM in Stephenville and surrounding areas or online at TarletonSports.com/ListenLive. The pregame show will begin 15 minutes prior to tip-off.
THE OPPONENT
In the first year of the Jason Burton era, Texas A&M-Commerce has turned things around and are looking to finish the regular season with at least a .500 record for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign. Since beating Tarleton in Commerce on January 31, the Lions have hit a rough patch by dropping five of the last seven games entering Saturday night's affair.
THE SERIES
Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce have been squaring off since the inaugural meeting in 1981 and the TexAnns own the all-time record 25-18. After Tarleton won the first four meetings, the TexAnns held a slim 13-10 advantage over the course of the next 23 meetings before Commerce ran a string of six straight wins from 2006-08. Tarleton reversed the fortunes, however, with an 84-60 win in Commerce on Jan. 9, 2009 for the first win of eight victories over the next 10 games entering Saturday's meeting.
TARLETON IN THE LSC
Tarleton State has developed into one of the premier basketball programs in the nation, as well as within the Lone Star Conference. The TexAnns earned their first league championship in 2012 and reached the finals of the LSC Championship Tournament for the second time in three years last season. Since joining the LSC as an NCAA institution in 1994, the TexAnns have a record of 171-144 against conference foes, including five seasons - four consecutive - of over 10 conference wins.
MILESTONE WATCH
•
Kathy Thomas enters Saturday's game with 95 career 3-pointers made. She most recently passed Lisa Parker (94) for sole possession of ninth place all-time. She is five triples away from becoming the ninth player in school history with 100 career 3-pointers and tying Jenn Doroga and Helena Smith (100) for a three-way tie for seventh place all-time.
• With 239 career assists,
Morgan Ashmore is currently all alone for 12th all-time. She is 43 away from passing Jenn Doroga (281) for 11th all-time.
•
Karli Moore is 15 points away from 500 in her career while Thomas is six (6) away from 650.
REACHING WIN NO. 16
In her first season at the helm,
Misty Wilson continued Tarleton's run of success by leading the TexAnns to their 16th win of the season last Wednesday. This marks the 10th consecutive season Tarleton has reached the 16-win plateau.
SENIOR NIGHT SUCCESS
Since qualifying for their first LSC Championship Tournament in 2002, Tarleton State boasts a record of 10-2 on senior night in seasons they have qualified for the tournament.
TOPS IN THE NATION
Tarleton State ranks among the nations best in multiple statistical categories, including:
• No. 24 in 3-point percentage (.368)
• No. 34 in FT percentage (.755)
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton State will advance to the LSC Championship tournament for the 13th time in school history. The opponent and time for the first round has yet to be determined, but the TexAnns will be guaranteed to play Thursday March 5.
