Richarme wins top singles battle but TexAnns fall to Midwestern

WICHITA FALLS – Tarleton State dropped its second straight Lone Star Conference tennis match Tuesday evening with an 8-1 loss to Midwestern State.

"Overall, I thought we played better tennis," said head coach Lance Drake. "Opportunities presented themselves against a Midwestern State team with a lot of depth, but we just put ourselves behind the 8-ball with unforced errors."

The lone TexAnn victory came in the No. 1-seeded battle of two of the top players in the South Central region.

Erika Richarme, a true freshman from Montgomery, entered the match as the No. 16-ranked singles player in the region and squared off with the No. 12-ranked player in the region Taylor Coffman. The Tarleton freshman dropped the opening set 3-6 but rallied back to win the second set 7-5 and dominating the super-tiebreaker 10-3 to earn the win.

The TexAnns dropped the remaining five singles matches as well as all three doubles on the afternoon. Tarleton will return to action this weekend to conclude the regular season with a Friday match at Texas A&M-Kingsville and Saturday's finale at St. Mary's.
