PLANO – Tarleton Tennis sent four players to the Collin County Open this weekend for the final fall tune up of 2016.
Â
"It was a good tournament for us to get some matches in," said head coach
Lance Drake. "We have plenty of things to improve on to make us contenders in the spring."
Â
Freshmen
Alicia Barbaroux and
Tori Simmons continued their fall test of collegiate tennis as the only TexAnns to compete in singles play on the weekend – each earning a quality win in their opening match. Barbaroux knocked off Seminole's Victoria Seifert 6-3, 7-6 while Simmons handled Schroeder's Camilla Anguiano 6-1, 6-0.
Â
The duo dropped their second singles matches of the tournament – Simmons 4-6, 4-6 to Samantha Conquios of Southeastern Oklahoma and Barbaroux 3-6, 5-7 to Arkansas Tech's top-seeded singles player, Marcena Acosta.
Â
In doubles play, the Tarleton twosome of Barbaroux and Simmons continued to find success in doubles as they won their seventh consecutive doubles match of the fall with an 8-5 win over Brittany Bennett and Gilbert Alex of Collin County before falling Saturday afternoon 2-8 to Seminole.
Â
Meanwhile, the doubles tandem of
Shelby Fillingame and
Ashleigh Elward won each of their first two doubles matches of the weekend – 8-1 over North Central Texas College and 8-5 against the University of the Southwest – before falling in the semifinals to Newman 8-4.
Â
The TexAnns will open the spring schedule in February.
