STEPHENVILLE – TexAnn tennis dropped its Friday afternoon non-confernece match to St. Mary's 8-1, moving to 12-6 on the season.
Â
"They are a good team and they executed better than us," said head coach
Lance Drake. "The matches were actually closer than the score indicates. We didn't capitalize in certain situations and let some opportunities go by in games. (St. Mary's) didn't give us much today. The girls competed hard but that combination against a strong team is not a good formula."
Â
Ashleigh Elward gave Tarleton its lone win on the afternoon, rallying to win her singles match in the No. 1 spot 2-6, 6-1, 10-6.
Â
"It was a good win for Ashleigh for turning the match around and getting a W," said Drake.
Â
The TexAnns dropped all three doubles matches 7-8, 4-8, 3-8 before Elward's vitctory. St. Mary's went on to win the final five singles matches against Tarleton.
Â
The TexAnns play their final Lone Star Conference match of the regular season when they take on Texas A&M-Kingsville at home on Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m.
