STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton and Cameron came into the series tied for fourth in the Lone Star Conference standings, and they'll remain that way for the series finale on Sunday after the two teams split the Saturday doubleheader.
   
Tarleton took game one of the series behind nine hits, six unanswered runs and another dominating pitching performance from Trevor Renfroto to hold off the Aggies.
 
Ever since the calendar turned to April, Renfro has been as reliable as the sun coming up in the morning. Renfro tossed his fourth straight complete game – his sixth of the season – and more importantly, the Texans have won Renfro's last three starts.
 
The senior from Richardson gave up a second inning home run, but settled in from there. Renfro never allowed a runner past second base in the final five innings of work and struck out eight batters while only surrendering four hits. Renfro is second in the Lone Star Conference with a 2.57 ERA and is tied for first with seven victories.
 
The Texans quickly gained the lead in the second inning on four singles in the frame, with Zach Fleet and Alec Humphreys each driving in a run with their base hits.
 
Tarleton gave Renfro room to work with on the mound in the fourth when the Texans brought home three runs. Forrest Perron drove home Stacy Heinatz and Fleet on a single to left which would give Tarleton a 5-1 lead.
 
Fleet capped off a 3-for-3 game in the fifth with an RBI single down the right field line that scored Landon Merka. Fleet added two runs and two RBIs.
   
Both teams used a pair of four-run innings to take leads late in the game. However, it was Cameron's big inning that put the Aggies on top with four runs in the ninth to take game two.
 
Jake Hasbrouck hit his team-leading seventh home run in the first inning for an early advantage. Hasbrouck, who's only a sophomore, is tied for the LSC lead in long balls, too.
 
Jacob French started on the mound for the Texans and, like Renfro in game one, was pounding the strike zone and limiting Cameron throughout the game. French struck out five of the first six Aggie hitters en route to a season-high nine strikeouts for the senior right-hander. French got a no-decision on the mound after throwing 6.1 innings and being pulled for Calloway Kirkpatrick.
 
Cameron took a 2-1 lead in the seventh but Tarleton responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Three straight RBI hits from Forrest Perron, Alec Humprheys, and Hasbrouck lifted the Texans ahead at 5-2 with six outs remaining. Hasbrouck led the Texans offensively with a 3-for-4 game while Perron went 2-for-3.
 
Cameron had four straight batters reach to start the ninth – three of them on doubles – to give the Aggies the come-from-behind win.
 
Tarleton will look to take the series and move into sole possession of fourth place in the LSC playoff hunt with the rubber match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
