WICHITA FALLS – Tarleton bowed out of the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament with a 5-1 loss to tournament host No. 20 Midwestern State Friday afternoon.
Â
Tarleton's lone win came in the No. 1 doubles match at
Luiza Ferraro-Adas and
Elena Preadca handled the Mustangs' top-seeded duo by a score of 8-2. The TexAnns fell 2-8 and 0-8 in the other two doubles matches to head into singles play down 1-2.
"We got a great match from our No. 1 doubles," said head coach
Lance Drake. "They controlled the match from the beginning and executed the game plan well. Overall, we fought hard and we were in the process of turning the momentum by going up in 1, 3, and 5 singles, but we ran out of time as Midwestern State closed us out. No excuses, they are a highly competitive bunch and were able to get us today."
Â
Tarleton lost the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 matches in singles play by scored of 4-6, 3-6; 2-6, 3-6; and 0-6, 1-6 to suffer a 5-1 loss.
Ashleigh Elward, Ferraro-Adas, and Preadca's matches were called off after Midwestern State reached five points.
Â
The TexAnns are currently ranked No. 6 in the South Central Region by the NCAA and will await their fate to see if their season continues in the NCAA playoffs. The top four teams in each region will advance to the postseason.
