LAWTON, Okla. – Tarleton women's basketball had its three-game winning streak snapped with an 81-72 road loss to Cameron on Thursday in Aggie Gym.
The TexAnns (8-9, 7-4 LSC) started strong against the Aggies, going on a 10-0 run in the first quarter that began with a
Baylee Peck 3-pointer and a 3-point play by Ipeaku Iwobi for a 17-8 lead. Iwobi's layup gave the TexAnns their biggest lead at 21-10 in the opening quarter.
Tarleton led 27-17 in the second quarter on
Bailey Wipff's 3-pointer, but Cameron (7-10, 5-6) cut the lead to 27-23 with 3:59 to go in the half after a 6-0 run. The TexAnns went up 32-28 at the break after shooting 52 percent from the floor and holding Cameron to 28 percent shooting.
Cameron took the momentum briefly in the third quarter at 34-32, but the TexAnns went on a 6-0 run to take a 42-36 lead on buckets from
Mackenzie Hailey, Iwobi and Wipff. Wipff led both teams in scoring with 19 points. The third quarter featured four lead changes with the last lead change resulting in the Aggies' favor at 52-50. Cameron led 56-52 through the quarters after going 6-6 on 3-pointers.
Tarleton cut the deficit to one at 62-61 with 6:37 remaining, but the Aggies' lead quickly grew to double figures after a 9-0 run over a 2-minute span. The Aggies scored 53 second-half points on 60 percent shooting and went 9-11 on 3-pointers.
Tarleton had four players in double figures in the game, led by Wipff's 19 points followed by Hailey's 17 points and eight rebounds. Iwobi had 12 points and eight boards.
Travanti Downes provided 10 points off the bench and four rebounds.
Baylee Peck scored five points while
Tiara Tatum and
Kylie Collins each had three points and a team-high four assists.
Shelby Mankins had a second-half 3-pointer for her only points.
The TexAnns will take on Midwestern State on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. in Wichita Falls.
