Texans topped in final seconds in road loss to Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – Tarleton men's basketball dropped its first Lone Star Conference game of the season on the road to Cameron, 64-63, on Saturday at Aggie Gym.
 
The Aggies hit a pair of free throws with 21 seconds left to take a 1-point lead and the Texans' mid-range jumper at the buzzer rimmed out.
 
Josh Hawley led all players with 20 points, his third straight game to score 20 or more, and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Tarleton (4-3, 1-1) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the game over the first 2:45 of play. The Texan lead grew to 15-3 on Deshawn Riddick's 3-pointer that forced an Aggie time with 12:45 left in the opening half.
 
Over the next six minutes of play, Cameron would tie the score at 17-17 with a 14-2 run. The Texans scored seven of the next 10 points to close out the half, including a 3-pointer by Hawley in the final seconds to take a 33-26 lead into the break.
 
Cameron opened the second half on a 9-0 run to take its first lead of the game at 35-33. Deshawn Riddick's layup, followed by a Hawley 3-pointer and Jesse Hill's 3-point play put the Texans back on top 41-37. Hill poured in 12 points off the bench while Riddick added 11 points.
 
The Texans followed with a 6-0 run to go up by eight at 47-39 with 10:47 to go in the game. Cameron would hit five 3-pointers in the next four minutes to tie the game at 55-55.
 
The two teams would trade buckets until the Texans led 62-59 with two minutes to go, but the Aggies closed the game on a 6-2 run to claim the win.
 
Tarleton shot 40 percent from the floor, but only 26 percent on 3-pointers and was 13-24 at the free throw line (54 percent), including 6-12 in the second half.
 
Corinthian Ramsey had 10 points, while Jaraan Lands added five points. Nosa Ebomwonyi scored three points and Clashon Gaffney had two.
 
Tarleton will return home to take on Western New Mexico on Thursday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m.
