Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wipff, Downes complete last second four-point technical play to lead Tarleton past No. 12 Angelo State on WatchESPN

STEPHENVILLE – Tie game. One second left. Technical foul against the nation's No. 12-ranked team on a national broadcast.

Enter, Bailey Wipff.

Just two nights after scoring a career high 24 points on senior night, the senior from Lubbock's final two points on her home court inside Wisdom Gym may be the most memorable of them all as Wipff – with the support of a packed house behind her – stepped to the charity stripe and knocked down a pair to deliver an upset win of No. 12 Angelo State 79-77 on WatchESPN.com

Those last two points tied her career high scoring with 24, giving her 48 combined points in her final two nights on Wisdom's floor.

The last second trip to the line capped off 20-7 game-ending Tarleton run that erased an 11-point deficit with 4:55 left to go in the game.

After leading for the entire first half, Tarleton surrendered the lead in the third quarter as Angelo State took a four-point lead into the final 10 minutes. The Rambelles opened the final quarter on a 14-7 run to extend the lead to 11 with 4:55 left in the game.

Tarleton answered the call with a magical run, beginning with a blocked shot by Mackenzie Hailey right into the arms of Tiara Tatum, which ultimately led to a 3-ball from Baylee Peck on the offensive end to start the scoring for Tarleton.

After a Rambelle free throw, Hailey and Wipff combined for seven unanswered over the next 1:20 to cut the Angelo lead down to a bucket with 1:44 left. The Rambelles answered and maintained between a two and four-point lead into the final 20 seconds of the game before the thrilling finish took place.

With 0:16 on the clock, Travanti Downes tied the game with one second left on a contested, mid-range jumper – which immediately irked a timeout call from a Rambelle player on the court.

Angelo State was out of timeouts, however, which calls for a technical foul, two opponent free throws, and possession of the ball back to the opponent following the free throws.

Wipff stepped up and knocked them down while Downes handled the inbounds pass and ran out the final second.

Behind Wipff's 24 points on 8-11 shooting from the floor and 4-5 shooting from beyond the arc was Ikpeaku Iwobi, who boasted 17 points and 11 rebounds in her final home game. Downes and Hailey also cracked double figures with 10 points each while Tiara Tatum (7), Kylie Collins (6), and Peck (5) rounded out the scoring.

This was Tarleton's first-ever national broadcast. A replay of the game will be available through tomorrow on WatchESPN.com.

The TexAnns will hit the road for the final four games of the year, beginning Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Texas A&M-Commerce.
