No. 15 Tarleton closes out regular season with loss at West Texas A&M

Tarleton enters LSC Tournament as No. 2 seed, will play No. 7 seed Angelo State Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

CANYON – The regular season came to a somber close for No. 15 Tarleton as the Texans fell 74-65 to West Texas A&M at the First United Bank Center Saturday.

The game was nationally broadcasted on the American Sports Network and NCAA.com as a part of the NCAA Division II Basketball Showcase. It was Tarleton's second nationally broadcasted game in as many weeks after showcasing a victory in Wisdom Gym on WatchESPN.com on Feb. 11 against Angelo State.

Tarleton got off to a fast start as Anthony Davis score the first five points of the game in the opening 1:40 to put Tarleton up 5-0. West Texas A&M answered, however, with a 22-6 run over the next seven minutes to put Tarleton in a 22-11 hole with 11 minutes left in the opening half.

The Texans continued to fight, pulling within one possession on three different occasions and cutting the deficit to just four before halftime, which they went into trailing 28-32. West Texas A&M led for the entire second half as Tarleton pulled within single digits on eight occasions in the final five minutes, but could get no closer than seven.

Chantz Chambers led the way with 16 points for the Texans while Anthony Davis (15) and Deshawn Riddick (13) combined for 28 points. Romond Jenkins (5), Sawyer Kipp (5), Ridell Camidge (4), Brandon Willis (3), Nosa Ebomwonyi (2), and Curtiss Anderson (2) rounded out the scoring.

The Texans will go into the Lone Star Conference Tournament next week in Allen as the No. 2 seed. They will play the first men's game of the tournament against the No. 7 seed Angelo State at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
