WICHITA FALLS – Tarleton suffered a Lone Star Conference setback Tuesday night when the No. 43 TexAnns fell to No. 21 Midwestern State in a national top-50 showdown at the MSU Tennis Center.
"Their match play was better than ours today," said graduate assistant coach Suzi Alcaraz. "Let's hope we've learned from it and keep on improving."
Tarleton battled in doubles play, but the TexAnns dropped all three matches closely.
Elena Preadca and
Luiza Ferraro-Adas fell in the No. 1 match 8-4 while the freshman tandem of
Alicia Barbaroux and
Tori Simmons dropped the No. 3 match 8-5. The No. 2 match was the closest as
Erika Johnston and
Ashleigh Elward were outdueled 8-6 to give the Mustangs a doubles sweep.
In singles,
Ashleigh Elward battled to a tiebreaker in the No. 5 match but ultimately fell 6-2, 0-6, 9-11 while Barbaroux (0-6, 5-7) and Ferraro-Adas fell in the No. 2 and 6 matches despite forcing seven-point sets. Johnston (2-6, 3-6), Preadca (0-6, 0-6), and Simmons (0-6, 1-6) rounded out the singles action for Tarleton.
The TexAnns will look to rebound with a spring break visit throughout Florida, beginning Saturday at Nova Southeastern.
