Texans take game one from No. 18 West Texas A&M

CANYON – A three-run home run from Jake Hasbrouck was plenty of support for the Tarleton pitching staff as the Texans topped No. 18 West Texas A&M at Wilder Park Friday afternoon.

Nathan Jackson got the starting nod for the series opener and gave Tarleton a career high five innings of work while allowing just one run on three hits – all of which came in the first inning. The senior settled in over the next four frames and struck out six Buffs along the way en route to his first pitching win for the Texans.

Meanwhile, his offense came to his aid with a four spot in the top of the fourth – highlighted by a three-run jack from Jake Hasbrouck off Marshall Kasowski. Dylan Lemons and Blake Adams got things rolling in the frame with a one-out single and walk, respectively, before Hasbrouck let them jog around with his eighth home run of the season to right.

The Texans weren't done there.

After the second out, Ben Mauseth singled and stole second ahead of a Hunter Seales walk. Jose Reyes tacked on one more run with an RBI double to plate Mauseth, but an out at home ended the rally with Tarleton up 4-1.

After Jackson departed, Conner Fletcher came out of the pen and got four outs before turning things over to Eddie Avila for the final 2.2 innings of work. Avila allowing one unearned run on three hits and struck out a pair to earn his sixth save of the season.

In addition to Hasbrouck and Reyes' work at the dish, Tarleton got one hits each from Austin Call, Jon Tauzin, and Mauseth, as well as one more from Reyes and two from Lemons.

Tarleton and West Texas A&M will take the field tomorrow for a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m., which is tentative due to inclement weather in the Canyon area. Stay tuned to @TarletonSports on twitter for updates throughout the series.
