ARLINGTON – Tarleton's ride through the Lone Star Conference Tournament came to an end in the finals Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 loss to Midwestern State and now the TexAnns will await their NCAA postseason fate.
 
Tarleton entered the tournament ranked No. 5 in the NCAA regional rankings behind Cameron, which occupied the No. 4 position in the poll. The TexAnns defeated Cameron in the LSC Tournament semifinals, but the ultimate decision rests with the NCAA regional committee.
 
The TexAnns' freshman doubles team of Alicia Barbaroux and Tori Simmons delivered Tarleton's lone win of the afternoon with an 8-6 victory in the No. 3 doubles match. The TexAnns went into singles trailing 2-1 and fell in the No. 2, 3, and 6 matches to end their run through the tournament.
 
"We had an opportunity to be ahead 2-1 after doubles, but we let the No. 1 match get away from us despite leading most of the match," said head coach Lance Drake. "Our No. 3 team did a great job of fighting back after being down most of the match. We just weren't up to the task in singles. Midwestern was just more solid than us today and too many errors cost us."

"I am proud of the way the girls fought today and all weekend," said Drake. "Now we'll have to wait and see if we have done enough to be selected into the national tournament."
 
The four representatives in the national playoffs from the South Central region will be announced Tuesday night at 7 p.m. CST at NCAA.com. St. Mary's, who was No. 1 in the last regional poll, won the Heartland title to earn an automatic bid while Midwestern State earned the automatic berth by winning the LSC championship. The final two at-large teams will be announced Tuesday night.
