Tarleton Track & Field had strong performance to close out regular season at ACU Wildcat Open

ABILENE—Tarleton Track & Field competed at the ACU Wildcat Open hosted by Abilene Christian University on Thursday.
 
"We had a lot of bright spots and we had some races I felt really good about, said head coach Pat Ponder. "We are hitting our peaks at the right time as our throwers had a good day setting some personal records, I thought the 4x400m relay teams performed well today. "I am pleased with our overall results and we will now get healthy for the Lone Star Conference Championships."
 
Ashley Johnson ran a career best 55.68 in the 400m dash which was fast enough to crown her champion in her event, her time was also an NCAA provisional mark.
 
In the women's 400m hurdles, Arianna Stegall finished second while Kara Bickham finished third. Stegall crossed the finish line in a time of 1:03.40 and Bickham ran a 1:05.25.
 
Johnson, Stegall, Bickham and Ariel Ballard came away with a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:49.95.
 
Roxanna Hernandez and Amy Riera also had solid performances. Hernandez cleared 5-03.00 (1.60m) in the high jump which saw her third-place. Riera also took home a bronze medal as she ran 20:49.63 in the 5000m run.
 
For the Texans, Zachary Pratt finished second-place in the hammer throw with a toss of 164-11.00 (50.28m).
 
Colton Troutman, Cornelius Blair, Maurice Pugh, and Chantz Chambers finished second-place in the 4x100m relay with a time of 41.62 seconds.
 
Khoury Gaines placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 42-11.75 (13.10m).
 
This was the final meet of the regular season as the Texans and TexAnns turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference Championships at Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, May 4 through Saturday May 6.
