Williams wins bronze, earns first NCAA Outdoor All-American honor

BRADENTON, Florida – Rascellis Williams won a bronze medal and earned All-American status for the first time in his career with a third-place finish in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the IMG Academy on Saturday.
 
"I am very proud of Rascellis," said head coach Pat Ponder. "He battled against some great competitors today. He came in ranked tenth in the nation and was able to finish third, I will take it."
 
Williams cleared a jump of 6' 10.75" (2.10m) in his event which placed him third in the nation in high jump for the 2017 outdoor season. The sophomore from Mineral Wells was one of two Tarleton Track & Field athletes to qualify and compete at the NCAA Championships. Williams qualified for nationals by tying a career best and setting a new meet record with a jump of 6' 11" (2.11m) at the Wes Kittley Invitational.
 
He earned an All-American honor with his third-place finish, adding to his accolades this season as he was named to the USTFCCCA All-Region and LSC All-Conference team.
