STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton men's basketball's all-time leading scorer and Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame member Chris Givens passed away Saturday night in a car accident in Dallas.

Givens played for the Texans from 1992-1997 and scored a program-record 2,104 points while averaging 17.1 points per game. Givens is the only player in Texan basketball history to score over 2,000 points. Givens filled the stat sheets in his career, ranking fifth all time in steals (158), seventh in rebounds (621), and 12
th in assists (267).
Givens was inducted into the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. Givens played in every game as a freshman, including the NAIA Division II National Tournament. In his sophomore year he averaged 19.9 points per game with two double-doubles and led the team in scoring in 15 games while guiding the Texans back to the national tournament. As a junior, Givens averaged 22.2 points per game and scored 40 points in a losing effort in the first round of the National Tournament. He played in 97 consecutive games before breaking a foot and then re-breaking it to miss the next season. As a senior, Givens led the team in scoring 20 out of the 26 games. He was a two-time team MVP for the Texans.
