TexAnns handle UT Permian Basin for 18th win of season

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton women's basketball used a 29-13 second quarter to storm past UT Permian Basin for a 65-49 victory on Thursday in Wisdom Gym.

The win moves to TexAnn record to 18-9 overall and 12-7 in the Lone Star Conference. The 18 wins marks a career high four fourth-year head coach Misty Wilson. The 18 wins are the most by a TexAnn team since 2013-14 where they went 22-9 and advanced to the second round of the regional tournament.

Katie Webster led all scorers with 17 points while Mackenzie Hailey logged her 22nd career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The TexAnns were able to break out of a sluggish first half where they committed 14 turnovers and shot 31.8 percent from the floor, but held on for a 26-21 halftime lead over the Falcons.

After UTPB cut Tarleton's lead to 26-23, the TexAnns went on a 7-0 run with points from Tiara Tatum, McKinley Bostad, and Webster. Tarleton opened the fourth quarter the same way, with a 7-2 push with Bostad's 3-pointer giving the TexAnns their largest lead of the game at 62-36 with 7:51 to go. Bostad finished with six points, three assists and three rebounds.

The TexAnns wound up shooting 46 percent in the game, including a 58 percent second half. Part of the high percentage shooting was the likes of Tiara Tatum, who went 3 of 5 from the floor for seven points.
