TexAnns come up short in LSC title game, await NCAA playoff fate

FRISCO – Despite early injuries to McKinley Bostad and Mackenzie Hailey, the TexAnns performed valiantly on the national stage and came up just short in their pursuit of the school's third LSC Tournament Championship with an 80-66 loss to West Texas A&M.

Bostad and Hailey would put their toughness on full display by returning from first half injuries to finish with double figures. Bostad score 10 points while Hailey added 14, joining Katie Webster in double figures. Webster led all scorers with 18 points to go along with nine rebounds in the game.

The teams came out of the gate swinging and were even at 18-18 after the opening quarter. The Lady Buffs struck for a 10-point lead with a minute remaining in the opening half, but Katie Webster ended the opening half with five unanswered points to cut the deficit to 37-32 at the break.

Out of the break, WT pushed its lead out to 13 but a jumper from Webster started a 13-3 Tarleton run over the next three minutes to bring Tarleton back within one possession at 54-51. The Lady Buffs scored seven straight over the end of the third and start of the fourth to push the lead back to 10 and Tarleton could get no closer than eight the rest of the way.

Behind Tarleton's three double-digit scorers, Tiara Tatum (8) and Kylie Collins (7) combined for 15 points while Nina Alvarez (5), Baylee Peck (2), and Shelby Mankins (2) added nine points off the bench. As a team, Tarleton shot .371 from the floor and .333 from downtown.

Webster was named to the LSC All-Tournament team.

Tarleton will now await their NCAA postseason fate, which will be announced online at NCAA.com tonight at 9 p.m. CT. The TexAnns were ranked No. 9 in the region in the most recent regional poll.
