FOOTBALL GAME DAY: Saturday, Oct. 5 vs Angelo State

No. 4 Texans put nation's longest home win streak to test vs No. 23 Angelo State

THE GAME
No. 4 Tarleton has its biggest test yet when the Texans host No. 23 Angelo State in a battle of top 25 teams and the last two unbeaten teams in the Lone Star Conference. The game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Both teams enter the game 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the LSC. The Texans also have the nation's longest home winning streak at 10 games while having won 10 straight LSC games dating back to 2018.

GAME DAY PROMOTIONS
It's the annual 'Pink Out' Day for football and volleyball. Fans are encouraged to fill the stadium pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
 
TICKET INFORMATION
The Tarleton Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m. on weekdays and can be reached by telephone at 254-968-1832. Cash, check, and cards are all accepted. The football box office will open at 10 a.m. on game days and the gates will open two hours prior to kickoff. Ticket prices range from $25 for chairback seating down to $15 for general admission. ABOUT THE TEXANS
Tarleton enters week five as the No. 4 ranked team in the nation after a 4-0 start. The Texans have been ranked in the top five for three straight weeks and the top 10 for five straight weeks. The Texans received a first-place vote in the AFCA poll for the second consecutive week. The Texans rank in the top five in the nation in four major categories: Total Offense: 1st, 583.5 yards; Total Defense: 7th, 233.3 yards; Rushing Offense: 5th, 291.3 yards; and Scoring Offense: 5th, 50.0 points per game. The Texan offense has accounted for at least 420 yards in all three games, including three 600-yard games in wins over SFA (school-record 673 yards) UT Permian Basin (632) and Doane (609 yards). Defensively, the Texans have posted first-half shutouts in two of the three weeks and the average halftime score in those three weeks are 39-2. The Texans enter week five with a 14-game regular season winning streak and have won 10 straight home games dating back to 2018, which is tied for the longest streak in the nation. The Texans have also won 10 straight Lone Star Conference games dating back to 2018. The Texans are averaging 50 points and holding teams to 16 points while out-gaining teams in total yards 583-233 per game. Ben Holmes comes in ranked second in the LSC with 1,116 passing yards and 11 TD's, despite playing only the first half in two lopsided wins. Holmes' top targets have been Zimari Manning, who leads the LSC with 524 yards with 6 TD's and J.F. Thomas (335 yards, 3 TD). Daniel McCants, Khalil Banks, Ryheem Skinner and Thomas McDonald lead a four-headed rushing attack with all four backs over 100 yards. McCants leads the way with 431 yards, 3 TD's while Banks has 338 yards at an LSC-leading 7 TD's. Skinner (148 yards) and McDonald (108 yards, TD) have also been weapons out of the backfield. Defensively, B.J. Jefferson leads the team with 32 tackles and 8 for a loss. Jefferson also has a team-high 2 sacks. Ronnell Wilson and ChadWick Thibodeaux are right behind with 25 and 20 tackles, respectively. Prince Robinson and Benjie Franklin are tied for the LSC lead with two interceptions each, with both defenders recording a pick six. Sean Walton is tied for the national lead with two fumble recoveries in four games.
 
ABOUT ANGELO STATE
Angelo State enters the game ranked No. 23 in the latest AFCA poll, marking the first time the Rams have been ranked since 2015. The Rams are 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the LSC after upsetting then-No. 14 Midwestern State last Saturday. ASU comes in ranked second in the LSC in points at 46.3 per game and first in defense, holding teams to 10 points. ASU averages 454 yards of offense and gives up 300.5 yards per game. Quarterback Payne Sullins leads the offense with 1,039 passing yards and 12 touchdowns to just three interceptions. His top target has been Keke Chism, who has 443 yards on 26 catches and five touchdowns. The top running back for the Rams is Lloyd Howard, who had 360 yards and five scores. Defensively, Kyle Hunter leads the Rams with 23 tackles and three tackles for loss.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Tarleton and Angelo State are meeting for the 36th time in program history since the two teams first played in 1965. The Texans hold the series lead at 19-16 and are also 10-5 at Memorial Stadium. The Texans have won three straight overall against the Rams and 15 of the last 17 dating back to 2001. The Texans have also won 7 of the last 8 home games against the Rams.
