SAN ANTONIO – Tarleton scattered four singles on offense in the opening game of a three-game series against St. Mary's and the Texans were shutout for their third straight loss Friday afternoon.
Tarleton went hitless over the first five innings before stringing together back-to-back singles from
Jacob Walker and
Tyler Fowler with one-out in the sixth – trailing 5-0. However, a strikeout and a groundout ended the Tarleton threat.
The Texans loaded the bases in the ninth on back-to-back singles from
Easton Brown and
Dylan Antonelli and a walk from
Blake Burns, but two straight strikeouts kept Tarleton off the board.
Brian Archibald took the loss with 4.1 innings of work on the bump, over which he allowed five runs – four earned – on seven hits and a walk. He struck out four, including two looking. He gave way to
Hunter Thomas out of the bullpen, who went the next 2.1 innings.
Zane Badmaev and
Case Rolen pitched the final 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Tarleton and St. Mary's will resume the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader.
