STEPHENVILLE –
Jon Law got the offense rolling with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first and Tarleton never looked back en route to a 14-4 thrashing of Eastern New Mexico Friday afternoon in Stephenville.
After Law got the scoring started in the first and Eastern answered with one in the second, Tarleton tacked on one in the second on back-to-back doubles from
Jacob Walker and
Colby Seltzer and then another in the third on a leadoff longball from
Tyler Parker to lead 4-1 after three.
Eastern New Mexico put up a two spot to pull within one headed into the fifth, but that's when Tarleton decided to open the flood gates.
Tarleton put up one in the fifth on a
Zach Mesa RBI double, one in the sixth on an RBI single from Parker, and then exploded for five runs in the seventh on a grand slam from
Tyler Fowler and a bases-loaded walk from Mesa.
Blake Burns tacked on an RBI single in the eighth to make It an even 10-run difference.
Tarleton pounded away for 18 base hits in the game, led by three-hit performances from Burns and
Jake Spence. Fowler, Parker, Mesa, and Walker all boasted two-hit performances while Seltzer,
Abel Osoria, Law, and
Dylan Antonelli rounded out the offense with one hit each.
Hunter Thomas earned the win for Tarleton on the mound while
Mitchell Morris provided 1.1 innings of relief.
Zach Svensson pitched the final 2.2 innings of scoreless relief while striking out four.
Tarleton and Eastern New Mexico will resume the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader in Stephenville.
