Texans fall in twin bill to Angelo State

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton dropped both games of a doubleheader and the series to Angelo State Friday afternoon.

Game 1: Angelo State 4, Tarleton 3

Another late lead slipped away from Tarleton as Angelo State scored one in the sixth and one in the seventh to erase a 3-2 Tarleton lead and win the opener Friday afternoon.

Brian Archibald was superb on the mound and suffered the tough-luck loss in 6.2 innings. He allowed four runs – only two earned – while striking out seven. Chris Reed came out of the bullpen and recorded the final out.

Tarleton scored first with a sacrifice fly from Tyler Fowler in the second. After Angelo State responded with two runs in the fourth, Tarleton answered back with a two spot in the fourth on a two-out RBI single from Colby Seltzer and an RBI double from Blake Burns to take a 3-2 edge.

Seltzer and Sam Scarborough led the team with two hits each while Burns and Tyler Parker had one hit each to round out the offense.

Game 2: Angelo State 14, Tarleton 0

Tarleton suffered a 14-0 shutout against Angelo State to drop the series.

Jordan Parker and Zach Mesa accounted for the only two hits of the afternoon while Connor Flanagan, Zach Svensson, Jaconb Cornell, and Ty Windham combined for the pitching duties.

The series will close tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game in Stephenville.
