PITTSBURG, Kan. – Tarleton track and field competed at the Pittsburg State Invitational on Saturday in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Texans recorded 12 top-10 finishes during the meet.
Junior
Kylee Ponder broke the program record in the 400m dash. Senior
Anterius Brown hit an NCAA provisional mark in the 400m and with the 4x400 relay team, which included
Mikel Stone,
Brandon McKissick, and
Alan Palmer.
Ponder placed fifth with a time 57.15 in the 400m dash. The previous school record, set by Jasmine Owens in 2016, was 57.56.
Gentrye Munden and
Jasmine McQuirter were the top individual performers for the women's team. Both athletes placed second in their respective fields, as Munden recorded 1.60m in the high jump open (1.60m) and McQuriter tallied 5.64m in the long jump. The 4x400 relay team also placed second with a time of 3:54. The team included Ponder,
Jordan Anglin,
Kamrynn Schiller, and
Alessa King.
Brown posted a 48.01 to finish fifth in the men's 400m. The NCAA provisional mark for that event is 48.51. Brown also surpassed the provisional mark for the 4x400 with teammates
Mikel Stone,
Brandon McKissick, and
Alan Palmer. The men placed fifth with a time of 3:15.93. The NCAA provisional mark for the 4x400 relay is 3:16.77.
Brown's performance in the 400m was the top individual result for the men's team.
Nicholas Mosqueda,
Sullivan Sanders,
Michael Simcho, and
Kevin Baez placed fourth in the Distance Medley with a time of 10:30.83.
In the track events, the Texans had eight top 10 finishers, four females and four male runners. Three women and one male finished in the top 10 of the field events on Saturday.
Next up, the Texans will travel to Houston to compete at the Howie Ryan Invitational. The event will take place in the Yeoman Fieldhouse on Friday, February 14th.
