HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – Finishing with one of the best rounds in recent Tarleton Women's Golf memory,
Elle Fox helped the Texans finish out their fall tournament slate in style.
Fox shot -2 (70) in Round 3 at the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic on Tuesday to finish tied-third overall at the tournament at -1 (72-73-70), the Texans' best individual finisher so far this year. Tarleton took eighth as a team out of the 16 participants in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, at Diamante Country Club, shooting +31 (895), the Texans' best effort of the 2022-23 season.
Besides Fox,
Rebeca Fernandez also played exceptionally, shooting +6 (76-71-75) for tied-18th.
Sofia Rodriguez finished tied-45th at +13 (75-77-77),
Alejandra Cambronero was tied-61st at +18 (78-82-74),
Mathilde Brogens was tied-69th at +21 (80-77-80), and
Angela Inocian was tied-81st at +29 (78-81-86).
Fox's -2 (70) round was the best performance by a Texan since their first season of NCAA Division I golf in 2020-21, when Cambronero fired off a -2 (70) in her third round to tie for the individual title at the Prairie View A&M Invitational. Fox started her round Tuesday with four birdies to just one bogey over her first 12 holes to be at -3. Overall, Fox finished behind the medalist by just three strokes, with Houston Christian's Elise Parel shooting -4.
Fox found her success on the shorter holes throughout the event, shooting the tied-second best score on Par 3's at -1, a 2.92 gross average, and the tied-second best score on Par 4's at even-par, a 4.00 gross average score. She shot 37 pars across 54 holes, the most on the team, helping Tarleton earn the second most pars as a team in the tournament. Georgia State had the most pars and won the team title at +5.
Tarleton's freshman Fernandez continued her impressive first semester, most notably shooting a collegiate career-low -1 (71) in the second round. Although she bogeyed two of her first three holes that round, she had a clean sheet the next 11 holes that consisted of four birdies and seven pars.
Rodriguez, who finished third on the team in Arkansas, polished off her fall slate by averaging a 76.2 gross score over her last nine rounds.
The Texans will have some time off before restarting tournament play in the spring. Their schedule will be announced soon.
